This is pretty fun.

Luciano Pavarotti & James Brown - It's a man's world

Not "funny" at all, imho.......quite far from it.

"Funny DIFFERENT", maybe, but........

What it IS
is an absolutely BRILLIANT and highly-entertaining juxtaposition
of two of the world's greatest entertainers ever, and it sends chills.

Watch the orchestra and the backup singers! They are really into it, and every note is perfectly
and impeccably executed, as if with reverence for the two masters. Very well-deserved.

And watch Pavarotti and Brown give incredibly genuine tributes to each other by their gestures and expressions.
(see James at 3:37 & 3:45 marks, and Luciano at 4:10)
That speaks volumes (absolutely the highlights of the evening to me), as does the spontaneous
and heartfelt applause erupting from the audience at several points. Wow.

The promoters knew it would be like this, hence the idea for the performance.....
I certainly didn't hear or see anyone in the audience laughing----but they did seem spellbound and highly moved.
You could at times almost hear a pin drop.
My only regret is not having been there. So sorry they are both gone now.

James was from my home town, and there are many tributes to him around the area.
No one like him, that's for sure.
One of his lasting legacies is his Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway,
which he paid for 100% and supervised every year, personally handing out thousands of turkeys
to those who needed or wanted them.
It goes on still to this day, and is a sight to behold.

Thanks for sharing the video......loved it.

This song should be erased everywhere. Clearly misogynistic and offensive to some people.

And here's a version with James Brown and Joss Stone. I think she holds up her end of the song pretty well.

Thank you for posting this brilliant performance. James Brown, and this song in particular, were favourites of one of my closest friends. He unfortunately passed away 18 years ago at the age of 50 after a five-year long struggle with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Thinking of you Ron!

I have always been a big Pavarotti fan...from years of listening to my father's Caruso records as a child. We attended what was to be a Pavarotti concert nearby in Hamilton, Ontario in February 1999, but it was around the time he was developing some voice problems. He came out on stage to apologize that he would not be able to sing that night. :( The rescheduled performance in July 1999 was also cancelled. That is the closest I came to seeing him perform live. Such an amazing voice.

Watching this video again ....

I was struck by the juxtaposition of two performers who are masters of two superficially opposite styles. You move from the "raw earthiness" of James Brown to the "operatic power" of Pavarotti. But juxtaposing them in this way shows that at the core they aren't that different - it's the same core, just articulated differently by two accomplished performers. And it's good to see each of them acknowledging each others respective prowess - you almost get a sense of James Brown wishing he could waft like Pavarotti and Pavarotti wishing he growl like James.
