RCI is having a “freedom sale” during which they are discounting the exchange fee by 72%

Sale is running 12-15 August.

I’ve seen this from my RCI points account.

Edit: same goes for my HGVC account.

Impressive... we need more of this.

I never seen this before, wonder if RCI have an excessive number of vacation time they need to move fast.
Or if it's an attempt to appease members after too many complaints about rising fees.

Can Revenue be down? Can Demand be diminished due to the rising fees? Would RCI offer this unless there was a problem at the company?

Unfortunately these “specials” will not fix the problems they caused, upsetting many of their customers. These specials are only short term solutions. With rising RCI fees, allowing member resorts to charge amenity fees and limiting system trading into certain resorts, these issues need to be addressed by RCI to get the customer base that abandoned them back.

My guess is RCI tipped the scale making customers like myself say “why should I use RCI”? They need a long term solution.

Having a TPU Of 2 on some places. Saw a week at Bonnet Creek 5 TPU for one bedroom. The Bonnet Creek is for August 19.
Put a hold on a 5 TPU at Orlando Sunshine Resort, 2 bedroom in Sept.

The discounted exchange fee have disappeared from my account. That goes for both my points, weeks and hgvc account.

I don't see the offer either on the discounted exchange fee.

I no longer see the promo either.

Disappeared on mine too. This was the image of the offer. Wonder what it meant, on 72? Another give and take, probably an error of an offer that they decided not to do but forgot to pull.

I agree. In my view they are greedy piggies. Even at 72 percent discount, the exchange fee is too high.

I already have freedom from RCI by dumping them and their multiple outrageous fees.

I think even if they change, the damage has been done. I know I would never use them again.

Yup. A mistake. Why deduct 72 percent when you think you got people in a corner since their weeks and/or points are parked there and these are of value?

In my opinion, I see them increasing charges and not caring about complaints.

For less than $70 per exchange I would be jumping all over it and maybe would even make another deposit or two.

Even at $239 ($159 if I exchange into a Vacation Villas affilliate) I can usually find 1 or 2 exchanges per year that I couldn't get even with the MF's for the points plus the exchange fee plus the RCI membership fee and every other year combine fees. These were my summer RCI exchanges this year most made 20-13 months in advance, a 2 BR on the beach in the Outer Banks mid June ($600), a 1BR ocean view in Ocean City, MD late June $539, 4 BR Summit in Massanutten in July (the $104 resort fee really impacted that one but even with it my all in was around $600), 2 BR Wyndham Great Smoky Lodge in August) $620.

I am glad RCI works well for you. I am sure it does for many others too.

I left RCI years ago and came back a few years ago and now will leave after I use my last exchange. For me, I am comparing apples to apples, II to RCI. II always comes through whether in exchanges or getaways.

I own high demand areas during high demand times and getting matches with RCI is a struggle. RCI focus is not on getting my great weeks and giving me equivalent exchanges. It’s more on getting combine fees and letting them compete for the weeks that would be equivalent to mine.

Now thinking it out, they are going after a different customer base then me.

I am lucky to get one exchange through II per year that I want. I am looking for east coast summer beaches and that is something that even with Starwood and Marriott priority I can't get through II. I could maybe get a getaway but it still would be a ho hum Myrtle Beach for $900+. Yes I can get late August Marriott Hilton Head but not what I am looking for. If Boston wasn't so far away, I would have jumped on the last minute exchanges and might even request and get a summer week using priority but the distance combined with the 1 BR makes it less desirable for me.

We will try and get RCI to make good on the offer. To do so we need a list of those who wish to cash in. Expectations is that we hopefully will get a voucher.
Please post here if you wish to be on the list

Good luck and thank you for asking. Nothing I want from them now.

I made a points exchange on the 13th and was charged the full $239 exchange fee.

Add me, I just exchanged two days ago

I would have made at least one or two exchanges. I don't think we have any chance though. If we had received an email or actually tried to exchange during the 10-40 minutes it was on the website and then immediately called then maybe but when airlines have mistakes in fares, they may honor it for those that got in while the system allowed it but they don't retro-actively allow those that heard of the sale but didn't book while it was actually online (before pulled) to cash in.

I happened to book during the brief window this was available in the US and have been scratching my head wondering why I got a discount. I am new to HGVC and this was my first exchange ever, and now I know what happened. Beginners luck I am sure.
