Need help with Bar Harbor, Maine

Dh has decided he wants us to meet up with one of his college friends for a few days in Bar Harbor. We will be there from August 31 to September 4, yes over Labor Day weekend. He's also saying he'd like to rent a condo, house or the like. I know nothing about this area. I need help on where to look, mostly for location. Any information would be welcome.

There are certainly plenty of motels in and around Bar Harbor. Maybe look for a BH Chamber of Commerce site on line that might have a centralized list or source reference with prices and contact info. Also, http://www.visitmaine.com may have (or steer you toward) additional useful info.

I am inclined to doubt that you will find a (partial) week condo or house rental in Bar Harbor around Labor Day weekend, but maybe a airbNb search would prove me wrong.

The "downtown" (i.e., harbor bordering) area of Bar Harbor has a large hotel and some motels. That very busy area is frankly a bit of a zoo in summer, with lots of people and lots of vehicle congestion --- and a limited amount of parking. I think you'd likely find better (not cheap, but maybe better) pricing at one of the motels on Route 3 en route to "downtown", but you would then still encounter the significant congestion (and parking) challenges if / when you drove "downtown".

Not much help, but hopefully at least some food for thought.

I too doubt you will find anything for those dates, particularly a condo or house rental for less than one week. We have rented the same house twice over the years on the western side of Mt Desert Island on Bass Harbor from this source: http://www.annspointcottages.com . We have had great experiences with them.

I use booking.com frequently (which does include some condo rentals, but more are hotels, b&b's etc) because you can input your dates, and then each property that comes up links to a map that shows you everything in the area. It helps me select location - their map can be switched to satellite view, which you can really zoom in on - so you know exactly where something is, and get a good idea of the geography surrounding everything, as well as what else is available nearby and their prices. And many properties have generous cancellation policies, so no no problem to reserve and change your mind if you need to. I use them for domestic and international travel all the time.

Edited to add: I just took a peak for 1 minute for your dates and there are options - how many travelers? I input 4 and here were a couple of multi-room options. Try poking around.
