If I purchased Hilton points elsewhere for cheaper maintenance fees. Would I be able to transfer into ocean 22 during summer months or does it book up quickly?thanks in advance for the info

You will be able to book IF there are availability 9 months out.

Can’t say if the summer books quickly.

If you are looking for 1 BD/+, you have good availability now. But it looks like more of the 2/3 BDs are booked (probably for families taking summer vacation). You should be able to book at 9-month mark especially if you are a little flexible.

HGVC also has Anderson Ocean Club (only 5 blocks away) at Myrtle Beach and they should be starting another at 16 street or boulevard.

Thanks for the info. So if I wanted a 2 or 3 bedroom and was summer flexible and booked at 9 months out I should be able to switch? Is there a fee to book at different resort

It’s free to switch but if you book anything else than your home week you will have to pay the hgvc booking fee. The fee is only paid once pr reservation and then you can switch as much as you like.

The peak summer months (weeks 21 through 36) are platinum weeks, therefore the most popular. At Ocean 22 there are only two 3-bdrm units and three 2-bdrm units on each floor, but six 1-bdrm units. In summer, due to family vacations, there is usually more demand for the 2- and 3-bdrm units. So it will generally be easier to book a 1-bdrm, since there is also a larger supply.

Only five of the units are true oceanfront. If you aren't fussy about whether you have oceanfront vs. side ocean "view" and are flexible with your dates, you will have a better chance, especially if you book right at the 9-month mark. As an owner there we get to book at the 12-month mark.

As GT75 pointed out, there is also Anderson Ocean Club just a few blocks north and Ocean Oaks on Hilton Head Island. There will also eventually be Ocean 16 a few blocks south, but probably not for a couple of years.

There is always a booking fee, other than for a Home Week reservation at your home resort. For 2018 the fee is $65 if booked online with HGVC or $80 if booked by phone.

Ocean Oaks on Hilton Head Island

Ocean Oaks is actually way tougher to book even in the off-seasons but is possible also. On Ocean Oaks you should consider making the reservation at midnight and then walking it.

I agree with GT75. The MFs at Ocean 22, while a bit higher than some Las Vegas resorts, are actually pretty good. And I also agree that Ocean Oak is generally harder to get into. I know...we tried with less than about 6 months to go. In looking at Ocean 22 right now, there are very few 2- or 3-bedroom units available in the 2018 summer peak season. There is the odd one for only two or three days, but there are no full weeks available until the last week or so of August.

Not sure where you live or the size of your family, but that could be a consideration. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in platinum (peak) season every year for a week or more, then it is usually suggested you buy in that resort. If you prefer to travel around to different places in different seasons, then it doesn't matter where you buy or get your points so much.
