Location
Long Island, New York
I stayed last week at Wyndham Inn at Long Wharf.
Nice resort, great location.
However, there was loads of noise due to construction of a private apartment in the building.
Worse, my water was out for 24 hours!
They gave me a key to another unit on the other side of the building, along with an offer of a bottle of wine (which I could not accept due to religious dietary laws).
I called Wyndham yesterday to complain about the lack of running water during my stay. I was told they'd get back to me in about a week.
What can I expect? As a Disney timeshare owner, one time I had a water leak in the air conditioning, and they moved me from a studio to a one bedroom. That's more than I expect from Wyndham.

We are staying there this week. What unit and floor were you on?

There's nothing like having realistic expectations!

It was room 362, a corner unit. All those units, i.e., 362, 462, 562 were affected.
Also, there is a lot of construction on the ground floor and on the second floor. The noise started before 9 am and lasted until the night on some days. And it was very loud.
Apparently a couple paid $800,000 to build a 4 bedroom luxury apartment there! There is a board in the 2nd floor lounge with the blueprint and architect's renderings.

You mean like indoor plumbing?
Luckily, I'm not a person who gets up a few times a night for the bathroom. I would have had to get dressed, trekked across the building, and then trekked back.

Sounds you're not expecting Wyndham to come up with much by way of compensation. Your expectations are likely to be met.

Ha. Yeah. The difference between Wyndham and Disney Vacation Club is amazing. DVC would most likely have either upgraded me to another room, and/or returned my points for the day or the entire stay. When my air conditioner was leaking from the ceiling with DVC, the person sent to my room said, "Oh no, we can't have you staying here while your room is being repaired." Funny thing was, the maintenance guy came before I left, and told me what he had to do, which was maybe a 5 minute repair.

A 4-BR luxury apartment, directly on the harbor in Newport, for only $800,000????!!!! with the blueprints and renderings displayed in the property lounge?????!!!!! First, I would think that is a "steal" for a high-end area and location in a four bedroom-sized apartment. I could imagine, maybe (but probably not), a one bedroom for that cost. What's going on at this Wyndham resort? Selling off parts of the timeshare resort to private owners?

I thought that this was a timeshare resort. Timeshare guests and owners are being impacted due to construction for a private apartment on the property?

Wyndham will get back to you in about a week?????

But you did say that they did give you a key to another unit, right? I realize that you are giving up the corner unit view.

I do understand. One would not expect inconveniences and disturbances such as yours happening due to construction at a private residence onsite that is being "promoted" in the Guest Lounge.

Maybe I didn't explain it correctly. The story is they paid $800,000 just for the right to build; I presume they have a deeded portion of the property for that money. I would then assume the building cost would be upwards of $500,000. A Wyndham employee told me he has spoken to the man, and the man said he and his wife loved the view.
I took pictures of the plans and the architect's renderings. If I can figure out how to post them, I will.

It has 4 bedrooms four baths plus a master bedroom with a bathroom, a fire place and a pool table area. We are spending the week here with one of our children and her family. We have 2 units on the fourth floor and everything is great. Wyndham is offering us a free breakfast on Wednesday due to the construction. Thank God, no sales staff here.

Yeah, they had the free breakfast when I was there, too. They had Panera Bread bagels, orange juice, coffee, and I think it was some yogurt cup thing. Nothing so great. Certainly not compensation for constant noise, and no water for a day.

We were informed in advance of the construction and noise issue. We could have cancelled but decided to stick to our vacation plans. The web site had a banner posted in advance stating the construction and noise issue. While one does not expect maintenance issues while on vacation, it is a reality that it happens sometimes. Just like at home, you don't expect issues, but sometimes the city turns the water off for repairs or the electricity goes out because some one hit a pole. I am sorry that you had to deal with the inconvenience and it affected your vacation so negatively. At least they offered you a different room, that def was an alternative to no water.

Well, they offered me a smaller room with a poor view.
And I'm not complaining so much about the construction noise; although I am sure many people would be upset about very loud banging noises on their wall before 9 am.
