Where is all the So. Cal. inventory?

I've been following So. Cal. Coast inventory in RCI for many years. As a local, it's a great way to do several staycations inexpensively.

Usually at any given time there would be 18- 20 properties listed, however this year the average I see when I log n is 8-10.

Anyone know why the sharp decrease in inventory?

The best inventory is snagged behind the scenes with ongoing searches, and never appears online.

Were they typically from the same developer? That developer may have found a different outlet for their excess inventory and are doing fewer rci deposits.

Set up a search, and you'll have a shot. Which resorts do you want? which dates?

I have noticed that nearly all of the Welk Escondido inventory is mysteriously missing (reported in some other threads). Also, comparing this year with last, The Marriott Newport Coast doesn't seem to have released any inventory beyond perhaps June of 2018. Maybe YOY demand has gone up.

I agree, i think searches are the way to go. although it used to be nice to just log in, see what was available and m

I fully agree with you, although i'm comparing online availability in 2016 with online availability in 2017; definitely a difference. Maybe the algorithm changed and more is going to searches than before. Or maybe it's just a natural dip in the cycle?

For years until this month there have many units available on line at Welk Escondido. Something has definitely changed.

Welk has been expanding their relationships with other clubs for direct exchanges.

Which other clubs?
DVC is a clear "direct exchange" partner added fairly recently. From the DVC side, a selection of Welk properties were added to the DVC's Concierge Collection and can be booked by DVC members using "qualified points" (retail or grandfathered). From the Welk side, a selection of DVC properties were added to Welk's point-charts, again for reservations against "qualified points."

Less clear, is the funny arrangement between Welk and Four Seasons. Welk clearly advertises Four Seasons as an internal exchange to the Welk point-owning community ... but under the covers we know that Welk owns a collection of Four Seasons intervals. I don't know if Welk weeks are similarly offered to Four Seasons owners?

Edited to add a couple links:
