I don't book RCI that often and it never asked me which owner was going. I also booked a Wyndham reservation for the same dates with an owner that is going. Is it a problem with the same owner is on both the RCI and the Wyndham booking.

I suggest you call the resort and clarify 2 weeks before arrival. I have never had a problem - I book thru RCI and add days on either side of the ressie. every resort is different.

also be aware - "RCI units" are frequently specific units - building / floor. If you want to be close together you will need to work that out with the resort.

I was told that when the reservations hit the resort system and have the same or overlapping dates on the reservations, your reservation or reservations, sorry I'm not sure which, will automatically be cancelled. Not sure with the new website and system if this will still be the case but I would guess it is. Another question to ask is if the reservations fall under that 48 hour rule.

The reservations will have to be in two different names if they are for the same or overlapping dates at the same Wyndham resort no matter how they are booked is what I was told when I enquired. You raised an interesting question that I've wondered about with the RCI reservations. My husband's name is the one that shows up on every RCI reservation. With our RCI stays I've never had a problem checking but I have the same last name and address on my driver's license. Our son is also an owner on the deeds but he wouldn't have the same address. In this coming year it looks like he and his family will finally be able to start using the timeshares more and I've never seen an option to select which owner's name you want the reservation in with RCI. It seems like I asked about this when I called RCI one time and they either didn't think it was necessary because I was the one traveling or if the first owner's name always comes up and that is the only option.

My suggestion would be to change the Wyndham reservation because that you can do yourself online without having to deal with the RCI reps who quite often don't give the best information and aren't very knowledgeable.

Thanks Jan,
This is actually not my account. I manage an account for a friend who does not want to deal with it and was always forgetting to move points into the credit pool in the old system or into RCI. So I made a reservations for her last night through RCI for Wyndham Bali Hai for a 2BR. And I realized that when I was making the reservation that it never asked me which owner was traveling and the conformation doesn't have a name on it. There are 2 owners on her Wyndham account, Her and her Mom. Then I used the rest of her Wyndham point to book a 1 BR Wyndham Bali Hai for the same dates. I have heard people say here that they have had problems at Checkin with the same name on an RCI and were able to resolve it, sometimes having to call RCI from the resort. I would like to avoid any problems for her, obviously. I think your idea of changing the name on wyndham reservation would probably be a good idea. Since she doesn't have any GCs left, this year. Do you think it will be a problem waiting until January 1st when she will get, I guess 2, now and put the GC on then. I haven't heard anyone here say they have had reservation canceled after 48 hours when the names were the same on a RCI and Wyndham Reservation. And I don't even know which name is on the RCI reservation. On her Wyndham account her Mom's name is listed first but when I made the Wyndham reservation, Her name came up as the default.

You said both she and her mother are on both of the RCI and Wyndham accounts? Just make sure you know which name the RCI reservation shows up under and then change the Wyndham reservation to the other person's name. For instance if we were in that situation the RCI reservation would show up under my husband's name so I would put the Wyndham reservation under my name. No need to use a guest confirmation with either the of RCI or Wyndham reservations and no worries about losing either or both reservations.

If you are ever putting a guest name on an RCI reservation it is only $79 vs $99 with Wyndham for a guest confirmation. I do know you need to call RCI to make any changes to the reservation once you've put a guest name on the reservation.

It's not supposed to and it wouldn't be automatic. But Wyndham employees can be so indoctrinated into the policy that the same person can't check into more than one room, it think on a resort level, it is possible that one can be cancelled, when someone pulls up the reservations and sees the same name twice and doesn't look any further to see (or care) that one is an RCI reservation. I think I read that this happened to a TUGer before. I think they got it back but it added an extra hour or so and a lot of stress at check in.

I was told by two different resorts that with the new website/computer system that now when the reservations come into the resort system 10 days beforehand the system sees it and cancels automatically. I'm not sure if they meant the computer system cancels or the person at the resort who handles the reservation has to manually cancel it but I suspect it might be automatic now.

With Wyndham it is really important for owners who rent to put something in their rental write ups or conditions that even if a second reservation is booked through another other owner, Extra Holidays, whatever, the reservations cannot be under the same first name or the reservation will be subject to cancellation and that the owner is under no obligation to find the renter other accommodations should this happen. Also add that it will require an addition payment of $99 to cover another guest confirmation to change the reservation.

Wyndham policy is to CANCEL ALL overlapping (with the same name) on the reservations...same or different resort with even 1 overlapping day .... gets all dates for BOTH reservations ZAPPED and SUNK into the big black hole of WyndhamLand.

My sister-in-law has the EXACT NAME as I ... full first name, full middle name and same last name. I would NOT risk our separately reserved units getting cancelled.

Likewise, I would seriously just keep my name on a reservation she was using...if it did not overlap with another trip or place I was staying at thru Wyndham.

Jan ... this is good advice and even more insight than I have seen posted here before.

I would suggest you charge the $129 fee .. as with a late date or emergency alterations as to guest attending at the last minute, you WILL BE ON THE PHONE with a VC ... instead of waiting for the overnight update .. hoping it works out.

Aren't they two different reservation systems? How can one see what the other has? What happens when you get two different John Smith people who happen to be going to the same resort same time?
I'm asking because I don't see how this could be a problem with two different reservation systems, RCI and Wyndham. Looking for product knowledge here.

The is ONLY one checkin/reservation system ... unless you are a fixed week owner.

Different street addresses ... different phone numbers ... different name of spouse.

So you are saying that Rci now uses Voyager

Or that the folks at the resort will cancel reservations if they overlap, if they see one through RCI and the other through Wyndham

And what if I have an Rci reservation at a non Wyndham resort and a Wyndham reservation that overlap. Will they be cancelled?

And what about Worldmark Are you saying that if someone owns in the worldmark system and Wyndham and has overlapping reservations, they will be canceled

For reservations at the same resort, in the same name and address, for the same or overlapping dates whether they are booked through Wyndham or RCI doesn't matter. Once reservations come into the resort system and the system sees them how the reservations were booked makes no difference.

With the old system you could have a reservation at two different resorts in the same name and same or overlapping dates and be okay but with the new system I doubt it still works. If it does I would definitely not count on that lasting.

Sorry but I can't answer about Worldmark. You did raise an interesting question because I do know at some resorts, say like Reunion for instance, on RCI you can book the resort as Wyndham Reunion or Worldmark Reunion. So say you made a reservation through Wyndham or even through RCI at Wyndham Reunion and also made a reservation through RCI at Worldmark Reunion for the same or overlapping dates, would those reservations be seen in the same system and subject to cancellation?

I've never exchanged back into a Wyndham resort, but I know that when I exchange into Disney, the reservation information transfers and I am in the Disney system at that point. I'm in their system with my name, address, phone number, anything that came over from RCI. Assuming the same thing happens with exchanges into Wyndham, they would have your name and contact info from RCI which I presume would match your info in Wyndham's system, but I presume it would not contain the Wyndham owner number specifically, nor would it show in your Wyndham online account. So it only depends on whether Wyndham is cancelling reservations with matching name and identifying info, or if they are going one step further and only cancelling if there is also a matching Wyndham member number involved. I don't know the answer to that question, though.

Name, first and last, and the address are what the Wyndham resort systems see and go by.

To anyone who says they have had it work okay for them in the past I would respond that was then and this is now. Do you really even have a leg to stand on if your reservations get cancelled when everyone was notified regarding the changes and the wording is quite explicit about multiple or overlapping reservations regardless of how they are booked? Also what do you think the chances are that Wyndham at any level, the resort, VC's or owner care are going to do anything to help you or if they will even be able to help you if the resort is full? All you have to do is read the posts to see how often Wyndham isn't helping or fixing the problem when the system or a VC is a fault and reservations are lost. I would not want to put myself in a position of having to depend on them especially at this time. What odds would you give your chances of Wyndham reinstating your reservations if they were lost because you messed up, think you are special because of the level of your ownership or somehow don't grasp that yes the rules do apply to you and what you are claiming is splitting hairs? That is the stance/attitude Wyndham is taking these days! If someone says Wyndham made an exception for them don't expect one for yourself. If you do get one then you should probably run right out and buy a lottery ticket because it is surely your lucky day!

I guess the point is that you can't be in two places at the same time

The only name I can find on the RCI account is the Mother's name. I looked at my RCI account and only found my name even though I have 4 owners on my Wyndham account. Now I'm wondering if I booked and RCI reservation with my account could any one of the 4 owners show up to checkin?

I suspect that if you called RCI they could change the name of the owner on a particular reservation. I called them once to change the default owner on our account to me, because my husband was listed as the primary and would always be the name that came through on RCI reservations, and the person I spoke with at RCI did it for me with no problems whatsoever. Given the ease with which they did that change, I bet they would easily do the same thing for a particular reservation.

Anything that involves a person doing it ONCE, does not mean it will happen again ... RCI, Wyndham, Front Desk @ resort.

RCI sends the information to the Front Desk. The Front Disk gets the Wyndham information. The Front Desk of yester-year is not the Front Desk of the last 2-3+/- years ago when "The UNIVERSAL AGENT" concept started. They may NOT have understood the "ins & outs" then... but I bet they do by now. And while they might have been sales agent rejects, I found them to be particularly 'evil' in their own right and devious/self-serving to benefit their own means.

And once cancelled, the reservations within 60 days can and does (esp Prime time) go to Extra Holidays.

So have different addresses, different phone numbers, different bank accounts along with the different names on the reservations & accounts. I don't know, but I can only hope, the front desk does NOT have access to our social security numbers.
