II just gave me a year-long complimentary membership, so maybe I'll try it.

If I don't deposit, but put in a search for something, is it correct that they automatically confirm? Grace period? How would they notify me? What if I don't see a confirmation? ie what are the differences between II and RCI?

Then, how much time would I have to pay my MF and deposit?

And I assume if I search for something in a future year, and they come through, I'd have to pay for II membership through that check-out date? Or waht?

I briefly tried to find this answer on TUG and haven't so far.

TIA!

When you put in an ongoing request II will verify that the deposit is eligible for deposit. Depending on your resort it may mean that you have to prepay your MF. If you match it will automatically confirm and you have 24 hour grace period to cancel the confirmation. This may mean you need to check your account everyday because if you don't get a confirmation or miss it, then too bad. They will email you but if it gets caught in your span filter or doesn't appear it is still tough luck. The confirmation looks very generic and doesn't say it is from interval. It is easy to miss the first time you get it. If you catch it and it is over 24 hours by a few hours or maybe even a full day the first time then they will do a one time override but at that point you may not be able to get your week back if someone else confirmed an exchange to your deposit. In that case you aren't stuck with the week on your request but would be stuck with a deposit credit in your II account.

If you think you may want to keep your week and not your requested exchanges you will need to check your II account at least once a day at the same time of day.

Generally II won't let you search for something beyond your expiration date. You can manually look beyond but if you are requesting it you would have to pay the membership fee at the time the request is made. A one year membership isn't really conducive to a good ongoing request with II. A request first also can't go beyond the check in date for your week. Again you can manually search beyond but you can't request beyond the check in date until it has been deposited.

What a great deal!
I would definitely try it out and see if you find it worthwhile.

II sends an email when you get a match. However, it is wise to also check your account each day, so you are not unpleasantly surprised by a confirmation you no longer want or can use.

The difference to RCI is that RCI allows you to select a "hold", in which they will hold a match for approx 48 hours; if you don't confirm, it automatically releases.

Do you have any thoughts as to where/when you'd like to trade?

And - I just got a postcard saying they're giving me a free exchange, valid during my free membership! So maybe I'll find something to use sooner, rather than an exchange into the future... a few Marriotts are showing w/availability - I'd like something that I can't get thru RCI.

This is for Sandcastle Resort owners in Provincetown, which just affiliated. I *think* they started out w/info on my ownerships, tho I may have provided it, now I can't remember.

I don't like the automatic confirmation thing at all, otherwise ... we'll see!

Thank you both for your info.

What a great deal!

Even more good news: my free membership looks like it is good for 2 years, and my free exchange as well.

I've been an RCI member for 20 years and II never had too much appeal, but I might be persuaded.

Test-trial search with deosit first

To set a future bar against which you can do comparisons, try doing a redeem first. Put in a search for all destinations and going out a year. See how many research units you pull

The do the same this coming weekend when the election is over and have more time to do deposits so see how the results change overnight with more choices.

This way you will have a base against which to compare all subsequent searches, comparing apples to apples. Patrick
