I assume that is the entire transfer fee I would have to pay for all 25,300 points? I see no chart explaining the fee amount. I am just wondering if that sounds right? With the $2,500 broker fee and $975 transfer fees, I would just need to list at $3,475 to walk away with no charges to me? That could be awesome! He was unsure if they could sell West points because it's CA, but he said there is no closing done by them, nor are there any licenses required to transfer an ownership like mine, so he thinks he can. He was going to ask someone who might know and call me back today.

Umm... I'd avoid a real estate agent with those high of fees.. there are other ways to sell on your own for much less money.

I don't know if Shell adds on transfer fees, but LT Transfers does Hawaii transfers for $200 or less, so I suspect they are padding the fees.

This is the Shell transfer fee alone. I believe it's set in stone. I talked to a Shell person a few days ago, and I verified, yes, that is the transfer fee, and it's just a pile of certificates, so no deeds for Shell. Kind of high for a new certificate in a new owner's name for each of my old certificates.

This is an actual resale broker with no upfront fees. $3,475 would be the total cost, out of pocket, to me. $2,500 is what his company will make.

Does Shell charge per contract (like Wyndham/Worldmark) or is it a single contract and the transfer fee is based on the number of points?

And the fee is collected up front?

It seems they charge one fee, depending on the size of the ownership. We own 25,300 points, and I want to get rid of all of them, thus the $975 fee. I am thrilled it's not more.

You can go into your account find out. I got an email with my transfer fee amount. Lots of little amounts in my certificates, some as little as 500 points, the biggest is like 3,500 points. All told, $975 to Shell.

The guy said he gets rid of Shell for people all the time, and he said we might have a shot of getting rid of them before next year's dues are paid. I am hopeful he can list the CA ones.

Rick keeps telling me I have to get rid of something. This is the first one.

I know it's a stupid question, but did you call to see if they might want deedbacks?

Nope. I want to come out of this without paying anything. I haven't asked, but I don't want to pay to get out.

Do you know something I don't know?

Nah, it's just a question I always ask.

I never asked for specifics for the transfer fees, but it looked like there is a charge per certificate. In my case, I have 3 certificates, so I think there'd be a transfer fee for each one. I can't find the info online anymore, but I'm guessing it was $150/per certificate since I have it in my posts that mine would cost $450 to transfer.

Where did you find it in your account?

Cindy,
Does the broker really think he can sell this contract for $3500 or more? Seems improbable in today's environment.

I think local Hawaiian brokers target people who have first visited the resort and done a tour, so after seeing the developer prices the broker prices are a bargain. When walking through Lahaina waterfront, I remember seeing some kiosks and store fronts listing Shell points for sale at what looked like bargains compared to direct Shell purchases. One guy was raving about how good of a deal it was. We then told him to check EBay. I think this is why local brokers in Hawaii and even Hilton Head Island can sell resale properties for above what these things go for on Ebay.

The broker indeed feels he could sell for the cost of transfer and $2,500 broker fee because he sold two in the last week. The office is moving from Hanalei to Koloa, and he expects Shell to sell quickly down there. I wouldn't think it would be much different myself, since Koloa is still far from Shell's resort on the island.

I met someone on the shuttle to/from Disneyland, a couple a little older than we are, and they went to a resale company on Kauai and bought a lot more points than what we own, but they bought Hawaii for the ability to get oceanfront. They bought enough to stay 10 weeks per year on Kauai, oceanfront. Sounded nuts to me. She said she didn't know the exact number.

Maybe things have changed

Several years ago I received 3500 points directly from owner and paid a fee of $150 in total

I went to the link to start the transfer process and got an email back from Shell immediately with the amount I would pay. It's correct, but crazy high for certificates.

Someone told me I could possibly deed those back to Shell. Okay, here is the problem with that. I used this year's points almost entirely, so I would be giving them nothing back. I paid the fees for this year and used the points. Nothing wrong with that in my mind, but I think they would not want my points in that case. Trying to decide if I should call.

Trying to decide if I should call.
If you do call, let me know the results. I'll miss my Shell tremendously, but I have more timeshares than I can use at this point. Almost all of mine are on the chopping block until I get down to a number that I'll use up each year.

P.S. Thanks for the info on the transfer docs. I just clicked on the link my account and got my email from them 5 minutes later. My 3 certificates will transfer for $225. which is less than what I thought.
