Using Kings' Land 2BR 12,600 via RCI...:ponder:

Hi

When trading within RCI it does not matter where your HGVC points comes from, as long as you have enough points for the trade you wants. a 1BR requires 3400 points and a 2BR requires 4800 points. During lower season these requirements may be lower.

When it comes to trading into to DVC(most resorts besides SSR), you have to use an OGS (ongoing search) and you MUST start it approx 1.5-2 years out(some would say that you need to start it even earlier). Even then you won't know for sure if you get what you wants.

So if you currently dont have an OGS running, your best bet to get Aulani before 2018, would be to snatch up any cancallations made just 14 days prior to checkin. This would however require you to check multiple times a day at RCI, since OGS' will not be matched with less than 14 days of checkin.

As you may can imagine your chances at best are slim to none to get Aulani.

If you REALLY want Aulani at a specific time, you need to go rent it from an owner.

/Regards

Thanks for the response. I was thinking OGS was the only feasible way.

Under that scenario, do the required OGS points get taken out of your HGVC account when you place the OGS or when the match is made?

Points are not deducted until a couple of days after you confirm a match.

Aulani is hard to get via RCI. Setup the search but make backup plans.

Thanks this is pretty good info. For RCI OGS, is it better to initiate them with points from the farthest year possible or does it even matter where the points come from.

Say you want to place your OGS for 2018. You have 2015 rescued points, 2016 points, 2017 points, and 2018 points. Is there a reason to use a point bucket over the other?:ponder:

I am used to II and it seems you have better luck if you use future year units...

Thanks for the advice. That is actually my plan. I plan to have backup reservations at Marriott KoOlina and at one of the Westin Properties in Kaanapali.

Reminder...

HGVC members have access to RCI Points and RCI Weeks Inventory.
Ongoing search requests are only against RCI Weeks Inventory. RCI Points Resorts require a manual search.

But I haven't seen Aulani just sitting there online in any of my manual searches since November 2014.

When you start an OGS you just pay the fee and then wait. They don't take any points until they confirm a match and there is no way to say "make sure you use these points when you match my request." Points are not part of the conversation, just your credit card number for the fee.

At the point a match is made they'll take the "earliest" valid points. So if you confirm a stay for 2017 they can't use your rescued 2015 points.
