Title asks it all. The answer may be surprising or maybe not.

Ohhhh, the most expensive to build, not necessarily the most expensive fuel......I looked it up so I will recuse myself now.

If the money to build the gas station had to be paid back it would probably be selling the most expensive fuel as well.

I cheated and looked it up. But I won't tell. :D

Ok, now that we know, let's go the other way: Where is the world's most expensive gas being sold?

(I don't know the answer, but I'm curious. I spent a whopping $2.03 a gallon today at Costco... ;)

Venezeula. The black market rate from dollars makes it about free. Even at the government rate we would all consider it almost free.

Most expensive, or least expensive? Free is great, but where is the highest price?

Gasoline in the Tidewater/Coastal Virginia area is averaging between $1.89 to $1.99 per gal.

But hang on what is this 30m of allocated overhead? Seems like some funny accounting to me.

The gas itself is pretty much the same everywhere. It's the transportation and taxes that make the difference. I always have to recalibrate myself in the UK since the price on the sign is for a liter (~1/4 gallon) not a US gallon. ;)

I'm guessing Antartica since shipping cost is probably horrendous.

Cheers

I know it's far from being the most expensive gas in the world, but the gas station just north of the airport in Orlando has to be right up there. Major gouging.

I'll bet that Gorda CA has that beat. The tiny town of Gorda, on the Big Sur coast, has the only gas station between the town of Big Sur and, oh probably San Simeon. I haven't been there yet this year, but I know it's been over $5 for at least 5 or 6 years, probably more. Wouldn't surprise me if it's over $6, but that's just speculation.

Tourists beware. If you want to drive the Big Sur coast, arguably the prettiest drive in North America, fill up your tank before you leave.

ETA - A little googling helped -- http://www.capsweb.org/blog/california-america-carrying-capacity reports this summer that prices there were $5.69 for premium unleaded and $5.39 for regular unleaded. So no, it hasn't hit $6 yet.

And I agree, probably Antarctica.

It looks like the station north of the airport in Orlando is $5.95/gallon right now. Others in the area are around $2/gallon.

Let me see. If you prepay for a tank of gas when you rent a car, but then only drive the car to the nearest airport hotel and then return it full, you have paid ???????????

When we visited Molokai years ago and took the tour of Kalaupapa I learned something about their gas prices. The price is fixed for one (or maybe two) years. Everything has to be sent in by boat and the large boat, with the fuel, comes in once a year (or every other I can't remember). So the price for gas is set at whatever it is when the gas arrives. This means that sometimes they have the most expensive gas on the islands, sometimes the cheapest.

I think we've stopped at this one before. But never again. It only takes that one time to learn.
