Any tour organizations that you would recommend to see Pearl Harbor area? We will be staying downtown without a car.

Pearl Harbor is a National Park - the Tours don't actually go inside the park, they just drop you off at the gate, and then park services takes over from there, so you don't need a tour.

If you are looking for a comprehensive tour of the WWII sites on Oahu, we enjoyed this one: http://www.homeofthebravetours.com/

When we went some years back we just took a cab to Pearl Harbor. As Denise says, once you are there you don't need a tour to get in.

There are a few nice options.

I'm trying the Home of the Brave tour when I go in December. It has really great reviews and they'll pick you up near your hotel in Waikiki, so not driving required. In addition to the USS Arizona Memorial (which is awesome) and the Bowin, this tour also takes you to Punchbowl Cemetery and a few places you can't get to on your own, such as Ft. Shafter.

If this interests you, from the home of the Brave website that DeniseM linked to, input Discount code "HOTB" for 10% off.

Or, if you want to go the free route, the National Park Service does take reservations in advance. I think you can reserve 60 or 90 days in advance, for just a few bucks per person. Totally worth it v getting up at the crack of dawn and standing in line for a ticket. The audio tour comes recommended for just a bit extra. If you're coming from the mainland, remember that Hawaii is several hours behind us, so don't be shy about booking the earliest tour of the day.

While you're there, you might as well see the USS Bowfin, which shares the same parking lot (or used to, anyway). That sub takes about 30 minutes to tour. Also in the same spot, you can take a shuttle to the Mighty Mo, which is nearby. I highly recommend the Behind the Scenes tour for that, too, because you'll get a live guide (as opposed to an audio tour) who will take you to places that general admission folks can't go.

Consider packages for USS Arizona (aka pearl Harbor), USS Missouri and Bowfin. FYI, we did all three in about 6 or 7 hours. Allow at least 2 hours to walk around the museums, etc.

Also, don't forget the Pacific Aviation Museum. It's on Ford Island and as I recall from a few years ago, the same bus that takes you to the USS Missouri also stops by the museum. It's a very well done museum with dioramas depicting various aspect of aviation in the Pacific during World War II. Since we've been there, they have added a new section with aircraft from Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War.

Think most of the "tour" options include other attractions like driving though Punch Bowl, and other historic sights.

If your most interested in Pearl Harbor, just take a taxi or the public bus out there.

We used Charlie's Taxi, with a fixed price ride out, and then grabbed whatever cab was waiting for the return. That worked well for us.

I used Uber for a few other trips around town, and they worked pretty good as well...

You can take a city bus to Pearl Harbor. It may take you awhile. There is a lot to see and do. We want to get to the Arizona. We did have tickets. However, they do have standby; it is a separate line. If there are not enough people to show up with tickets, they let the standbys get in.

On the website, reservation.gov they mention that there are 1,300 tickets to the Arizona monument available each day on a first come, first serve basis. Does anyone know how fast these would get snapped up for a Sunday tour in October?

No idea, but they do have hold tickets back for walk-ups. Just get there early, like 7:30am, if you don't have a pre-reserved ticket.

Also the USS Missouri is now known as the Battleship Missouri Memorial Museum. For more info and for info about the new exhibit of Kamakaze Artifacts never before shown outside Japan - see https://ussmissouri.org/press/press...ouri-opens-new-exhibit-of-kamikaze-artifacts/
