I have looked thru the online info regarding Marriott Reward Points.
It says I can purchase points as a gift for a friend up to 50,000 @ $1.25 pp in the calendar year.
It also says I can transfer points from my account or receive points up to 50,000 per calendar year from a spouse or domestic partner to be used for a reservation.

BUT what about using points from two accounts for one reservation?

My friend has a MRP Resie requiring 180,000. It is a stay 5 nights, use points for 4 nights Resie.
If my name and reward number are added to the reservation, can we request they take the points equally from our accounts?

I know I can call and ask, but I though I would see if anyone had experience with this.

And I can also buy the points 50,000 now and give her the money to buy the other 40,000 but since I have the points in my account, I prefer to use them if I can.

Thanking you in advance :hi:

I don't think you can do this if unrelated, but give it a try. Good luck.

Is there really a limit on transferring points from my account to DH's? He's gold and I'm silver so we were planning on transferring about 110,000 from my account to his so we could book a Cat 8 in Sydney and get his gold perks, especially the lounge.

Spouse/DP Transfer are apparently not limited as long as they are done at time of reservation

You cannot combine points from two accounts for a single reservation unless it is a spouse or domestic partner and you first transfer the number of points needed from one account to the other. The reservation is then made from one account. No limit on the number of points that can be so transferred.

You can purchase up to 50,000 points per calendar year for any account.

I think this is the policy but I have read that a matter of practice that Marriott will transfer points to and from any two individuals. The two people don't need to be a spouse or domestic partner. Again, not official policy, which could be changed at any time.

I also think the gifting of points is the process of purchasing points for someone else. Not gifting them points already in your own MR account.

I just called the MR line and she confirmed that there is no limit on the number of MRs transferred from one spouse (or domestic partner) to the other as long as there is a confirmed reservation.

But this wouldn't be to a spouse or domestic partner unless I am misreading his question.

While the T&Cs do state "spouse or domestic partner", Marriott will actually pull points from any other account. As dioxide45 mentions they could change that policy at any time. Given they have allowed the transfer to be from anyone to anyone else for more than a decade now hopefully they won't suddenly change the rules, but they could.

Just call Marriott Rewards Customer Service, tell them you want to order an award that requires more points than you currently have, but you have a friend who has enough points to add to yours for the award. They will fax/email you a form that both of you will have to fill out, sign and email/fax back to them. Once that is done, you can order the award.

I may be wrong but there seems to be a some things in the Marriott system that depend on who you speak to when you 'phone.

My related question is, can you transfer points other than those that are precisely required to complete a booking? E.g. if I have 200,000 MRPs, my wife has 100,000 MRPs and we want to book a certicate that costs 230,000 MRPs, at the point of booking can my wife transfer me all of her points, 50,000 or just 30,000, or will it depend on who I speak to?

They will only transfer enough points, in increments of 1,000, that are required to make the reservation. So in your example they would only transfer 30,000.

Thanks dioxide45, that's what I thought. But a follow up question. Do transferred points count towards lifetime elite status? This would influence which way my wife and I would like points to travel.

They do count toward lifetime points.

Thanks again dioxide45. That's good news and bad news. The good news is that my wife's account is a low hanging fruit full of goodies and the bad news is that I need to figure out how to use all those points in my account before I can pluck them.

At risk of going off topic, there is another issue on MRPs that I have always felt is ambiguous. This is whether you can upgrade a certificate. About four years ago I tried upgrading a 7 night cat 5 to a cat 7 and was told no. Several comments I have read on TUG suggest that upgrading is possible. Is there a definitive answer?

We have successfully upgraded a certificate. Another thing that we did have a problem with was extending a certificate. We called and were told no. I didn't think Marriott had an off shore customer service staff, but I got the impression that I was talking to someone in India. I could be wrong, but I have worked with off shore teams and am pretty good at telling the difference. I asked to speak with a supervisor and I think I was transferred to a US based rep and they were able to extend the certificate for a year.

A lot depends on who you talk to. If all else fails, hang up and call back and ask the same question to someone different.

If you want to lower your account balance to be able to transfer more points from your spouse's account, you can make a "dummy" reservation.

Pick a hotel with award availability. Make an award reservation which will lower your points balance. Now you can call Marriott Rewards to transfer points from your wife's account for the reservation you really want. After you've done that and they've transferred the points you can cancel the "dummy" reservation which will put those points back in your account.

Just make sure you can cancel the "dummy" reservation you made. :)

This is a great tip as my friend has more points then necessary. I only have my "half" 90,000 but she is platinum so we want the Resie to stay in her name for lounge access/upgrades.

I will let you know how we make out.

Ty1on, you are correct regarding my question, Julie called for her own info.

This is a really valuable idea, which I had never thought of. It could become an important part of our strategy because my wife needs a lot more points for lifetime Platinum status (the nights will not be a problem), but she has over 300,000 points in her account which until now have prevented my transferring points to her. I love this loophole! Thank you.

Does anyone have the transfer form? Using MRP from two accounts for one resie

[Link disabled.]

In the thread above, it was posted that it is possible to use MRPs from two unrelated account for one Resie.

When. I called Marriott the person I got did say it was possible and would send the transfer form.

This never happened and when we called back, we were told the "party line"

Does anyone have a copy of the transfer form they can send me via email?

TIA

My husband and I did this recently -- so we are related.

We called Marriott Guest Services -- 801/468-4000

Had to give them our information -- Reservation # we wanted to use the points for. Both Marriott Rewards #s (from and to account #s).

They then emailed the form to me (the person relinquishing points). All information was pre-filled in with our information including the # of points being transferred. Did the person you talked with get all your information?

So I don't think there is a "generic" form that you can use.

Ahhhh, my friend made the first call...I will check. And did you get the email within 24 hours do you recall?

When I transferred my points I received the email within minutes.
