Got flooded out of Bonnet Creek this weekend

We were awakened by security on Saturday night (Sunday morning) at 2:30am, telling us we had to move because water was flooding down from the unit above us in Tower 3. Apparently, they got very drunk, started their washing machine, somehow rigged it to not shut off when it filled and then passed out. The water flooded their unit (7th floor) and the hallway outside their unit and all the units below them to the ground floor. There was even water running down the outside of the building!

We quickly packed our family (no easy chore in the middle of the night) and moved into a unit on the 8th floor. We finally got settled in and everyone back to sleep by 4:30am, but it pretty much ruined our last day in Orlando. We had planned to get up early and be in Magic Kingdom for rope drop, but that didn't happen. We ended up spending our last day at Downtown Disney shopping before heading to the airport for our evening flight.

Helluva way to end our stay at what was the nicest Wyndham property we've stayed at to date.

Wow! sorry to hear that. Rough way to end your trip, for sure. Did you contact Owner Care? My experience is, they will reimburse you probably half your points for a situation like this. It sounds like you were severely inconvenienced.

Any bets on whether they were renters or owners?

This was obviously not an accident. Who will get the 7-story clean-up bill -- the individual owner, insurance company, all the other owners as part of their annual assessment? What really happens in cases such as this?

Who told you this?

I doubt the individual owner/guest has the financial backing for this. My guess is insurance (which raises rates for all owners) and the insurance company may go after individual occupying the unit.

Could've been worse. I'll take an overflowed washer to a fire any day. Been there, done that.

As this was NOT an "act of God" .. usually the insurance company pays IF the damage was covered under the insurance policy. Then, the insurance company would go after the person(s) either in the unit or signer of the keys at check in .. treated as consumer debt.

If the police decide this is pure vandalism ... intentional and willful ... criminal charges would be filed and restitution could be included as part of their sentence ... so much better as it does not go away with bankruptcy ... :hysterical: Plus, if more than some limit ($1000-2000) of damage in value... it then become a Class (Something) Felony .... and usually ONLY reduced AFTER full restitution is MADE (and made quickly) as part of a plead deal.

Don't ask ... I am NOT a lawyer (not even a TV lawyer) ....

The Front desk manager (Daniel) who was on duty when we checked out that day.

I don't doubt you, but it's odd that the front desk would tell people that another guest was "drunk and passed out."

I think it would be hard to cause a flood like that by accident, but strange things do happen when people are on vacation!

Or when by people who eventual are so drunk that they passed out after causing a floor .... could have disconnect the water supply hose from the washer to have a water fight.....and forgot to turn it off?

I'm not surprised that it happened - I'm surprised that the front desk Mgr. disclosed all the details.

So am I, for a host of reasons.

Maybe more like a washer hose burst, and they had to make it seem like it was another guest? How does one rig a washer not to stop filling, especially when drunk?

Sounds like a Lucy and Ethel adventure !

Water hose fight? Another source of filling water balloons? Paranoid drinking + other stuff dudes? And idiot or two (had one in my unit once, who kept switching the garbage disposal on --- WTF are you doing? What is this switch for?)

Trust me .. there are some very, very weird people out there...

Sorry your trip ended this way. I do not even want to do laundry when I am completely sober and that would be last activity I would do if I were drinking - buzz kill! People have problems. I would definitely call customer service.

Hmmm, it's not that I doubt that the front desk told you that, because I absolutely believe that they would say that but...something doesn't add up. It doesn't make any sense. Why would anyone even do that in a drunken state?? I'm thinking that there is a lie in there somewhere- probably a burst pipe or something with the water hose, hot tub etc., but instead of accepting any responsibility, blame it on a drunk guest! That story that they told you doesn't add up! Sorry that you had to deal with that :(

They probably started a bath, and then while waiting for the tub to fill, passed out.
