I love my pillow! I take it when I travel - but it is breaking down on me. I brought it home from The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia about 15 years ago. It was so comfortable, I just packed it up. When we checked out, I told them to charge me for it. They offered to get me a new one, but I wanted the one I had slept on - it was the most comfortable pillow I had ever had. It is getting so flat and broken down that I put it in the dryer in a vain attempt to fluff it up and sleep on it one more night!

I had contacted the Resort several years ago and asked them to send me another one. They did so immediately but, alas, they had changed manufacturers and it was not as good as the one I had. I sadly returned it and have been on the hunt ever since for a new down feather pillow.

I have bought a number of them - and returned them. They are either too firm or the feathers are not all down - so they are sticking out of the liner and can actually poke you! Many of the "new" pillows have a "down surround" and that doesn't work well for me either.

So, if anyone knows of a great all down feather pillow that I can purchase - I would love to hear about it!

Hi Glenmore,

This article will help you decide what you need:
How to Chose Down Versus Feather - from Down and Feather Company

"At Down And Feather Company we realize not everyone is going to purchase their pillows from us. However we do realize how personal pillows are and truly wish everyone would sleep better. So we figure if everyone understood the difference between a feather pillow and a down pillow a "feather" and a "down cluster" and how feather pillows and down pillows and even feather and down pillows are different everyone would sleep well..."

I can't help, but I would normally say to not let the search get you down, but in this case... ~ Ron :hysterical:

Thanks for the article Multiz321 and for the laugh RonB!!!!!

I use a MyPillow bought from Bed Bath and Beyond. Not down not feather, so I can't help much on that topic. My problem with down pillows is that by morning they are FLAT. Every time we stay at a Marriott timeshare they have down pillows and I need at least two because they go flat almost instantly. I don't have that problem with the MyPillow.

Holy Cow!! At between $287 and $422 EACH!!!! They're marketing to the wrong dude here. I like a nice pillow as much as the next guy, but I just bought a pair of perfectly serviceable pillows (they weren't down) at Costco for about $25. And there were several cheaper ones.

Am I out of touch?

We have always used down/feather pillows and comforters. There are several options. If it is all down (it could be goose, duck, or chicken...check the label)...it will be very soft and lose the loft very quickly...and cannot be fluffed up to stay that way; if it is all feathers, it is firm and the loft will remain; if it is a mixture of down and feather, the loft stays (sometimes), but will also break down. Over the past years, things have changed wrt this, as well...it's next to impossible to find a pillow that will keep its firmness and loft.

So, what I do, is open up the pillows I love...and add down/feathers to the existing great pillow to rejuvenate the existing pillows. Then...stitch it up and voila....a "new" pillow with loft and firmness again. When re-stuffing, try to shake the feathers down to one end, so when you open the edge for stuffing, you won't have too much down escaping and making a "fluffy" environment.
Good luck....I do it every couple of years.

That makes so much sense! And I had actually been considering that. Thanks for the great advice. I will try that before I make my next "investment"!

Quarter--do you use down from other comforters and/or pillows or is there a place you can purchase down?

I have been thinking about combining some down pillows too. My newest one is just too "firm" and my favorite one is becoming "nothing" pillow. When we cleaned out my mother's house I snagged a couple of nearly new ones, but they were regular size and if I use them, I have to use 3 pillows on the bed and hubby likes his king one that is not down. I have not been able to convert him in 45+ years - his loss!

I use filling from old pillows that I have. I don't throw these items out when they are not longer of use as pillows...I had used them as "decorator" pillows in various rooms with different cases. Every few years, we luxuriate in "new" pillows...a good thing. Glad this helped.

I wasn't going to intrude on this thread but....

I use a MyPillow bought from Bed Bath and Beyond.

Over the years, we've bought, wore out, replaced numerous "gone flat" pillows.

My wife had been complaining that she was having trouble sleeping and was doubling up on old pillows get relief.

Given that "as seen on TV" products, in past experience, have never lived up to expected claims , I have to confess.....I did buy ONE regular firmness MyPillow from BB&B for her to try out. She loved it but the "time to flatness" duration question was still in doubt.

Several months later it is still in original shape. I eventually tried hers for a couple nights but it was too soft for me. I bought an extra-firm one for me and we're both happy with the product. We even bought 2 more for the guest room.

What's in these things? The tag lists it as "100% shredded Polyurethane"
Doesn't sound impressive but the stuff does seem to work.

..Mark

P.S. BB&B sells them for $50/ea
The guy on TV sells them for $100ea but will send you 2nd one "free" (+ extra S/H)...you do the math ;)
