I'm Looking to travel to Puerto vallarta. Looking at the available exchanges in RCI, it seems that most of them are Mandatory all inclusive, but the rates quoted for the All Inc. are astronomical. $250 per person per day? Really?

At those rates, there is no benefit whatsoever at booking through RCI. I called some of the resorts and got way better rates directly from their reservation departments.

so questions are:

has anyone actually booked an Mandatory All Inclusive, and was it worth it?

Why are these all inclusive rates so high?

Anyway to get around the Mandatory All inclusive and just book the exchange?

Mandatory AI's and especially the very expensive AI's are going to be the ones that sit in online available inventory. PVR has a decent amount of non mandatory and non AI TS resorts, they just may not sit around in bulk online waiting for someone to take them, especially during high season. When are you looking to travel and what size unit do you need?

Rates are so high because they make money by charging high AI fees and obviously get enough people to bite, to make it worth their while. They bulk deposit dozens if not hundreds of units that would be sitting empty anyway into RCI and other exchange companies. They are not non profit independent HOA run timeshares that are just trying to cover expenses.

your answer makes a lot of sense. We are booking last minute, so I'm sure that is not helping with availability. Also, we are traveling mid week 2/11/15 to 2/18/15 (wed- wed)and that limits the availability even more. For this trip and the circumstances, I think we are going to have to book directly through a hotel, or a travel service if we can't find a decently priced exchange.
