Do you think it is worth booking an AI?

We were looking at booking an all-inclusive resort through RCI and wondered if it was worth booking rather than paying for it outright. Booking through a travel agency would be about $275/day for 2 people. Going through RCI would use 1700 points, the RCI booking fee and about $180/day for the AI fee. RCI likes to portray AIs as a bargain but I don't see it as being worth it. Opinions?

Generally, it seems like folks who like AI, buy it for the unlimited top shelf liquor.

Hmm. We first got interested in AI after going to Aruba and seeing how expensive it was to eat and drink. Our next destination was Jamaica and we heard in advance that it was a similar situation there so we booked an AI. The food choices were excellent and plentiful but my liquor of choice was Red Stripe. We are going to another AI in November, the Grand Bahia Principe Ambar in Punta Cana. Again, the food looks amazing. They do offer top shelf liquors but I'll still stick with the beers. It was just recently we found out we could have also booked the Ambar through RCI and though you can save a bit it just didn't look like the savings was worth using the points up. We'll probably continue to island hop with AIs and save our TS points for stateside where we know how to find groceries, liquor and dining at reasonable prices.
