Just got my email for my stay next month. I have never been to the property. What should I be asking for in it preferences? Too floor? Golf course view? Near the pool?

I'm traveling with family and will have two kids with me ages 18 months and 4 years.

We've only been there twice, but loved our ocean view both times. The first was bldg. 4400 which had a nice BBQ area at our end of the building, and the sunsets were great. With kids it would be a bit of a walk to the pools, but there is a nice grass play area just around the corner and a bit down the hill to the left.

Second visit was in Building 5100, more distant ocean view at the top edge of the property, far from the lobby, but a cul de sac with pool, BBQ, lots of tables, games and a large grass area for kids to run and enjoy. We did not have any children, so did not notice the specifics of what was designed for kids. Both times, as exchangers , we received a high floor and one of our building requests. We chose bldg 5100 because my mom uses a walker and the pool, and whole area around it does not have steps. There are quite a few steps to the lobby pool, although there is an elevator to the first level, but more steps after that to the pool area.

There is a whole thread here with specific building and unit numbers for NCV. It was helpful in making our request. Also, the TUG reviews mention favorite locations. We loved both our weeks there. They were in January (perfect weather) and February (a little bit of rain), so you will have more competition for the most popular locations. They definitely tried to give us what we requested though. Good Luck!

We were there last week. The higher the building number, the better the view.

Steven....after you submit your request (and I suggest you provide as much detailed info as you can in that request), you will get an email from a NCV Pre-Arrival Specialist. After you receive that email, you can open a dialog with that person. Since the resort has such a large footprint, and has pools in the middle and at both ends, I wanted to be close to a pool (preferred the main pool as it has a bar/grill) but I also wanted an Ocean view.

I ended up in Building 3200, which is right across the street from the check in building and main pool area, but it has a nearly directly westward facing Ocean view which has provided for some absolutely spectacular sunset views from our balcony....and our building has below the building parking, so the car stays cool even during the heat of the day which is also nice. Another perk of that feature is that the first available floor of villas have great views (as it is actually the 3rd floor from the Ocean side of the building). Building 3100 has the same characteristics. When in our Villa and on our balcony, we would not know we were close to the check in as it still seems quiet and peaceful.

We ended up very happy with our building assignment, and we used DC points for the ressie.

The bldg with the 1000 numbers generally do not have a view.
The bldgs with the 2000 numbers almost all have good views from the 3rd-4th floors ( with some view from the 1st & 2nd)
The 3000 bldgs are variable with many having good views (3800 & 3900 are outstanding)
The 4000 & 5000 bldgs, all floors have great views (4000 & 4100 are the BEST)

These are generalizations and not always true but a good starting point.

You'll love it

We've been there 3 times and we love it. It is one of our favorites!

It is a great Marriott. Lots of good restaurants in the area.

Make sure that you take the shuttle down to Crystal (?) beach. There is a nice restaurant there.

Fasttr,
We always stay in the 4400 building when we go. We own two weeks there. What condition is the 3200 bldg in. Have they refurbished it recently? I am thinking of changing it up a little this summer and maybe 3200 might be an option. You mention the view was great...can you see the ocean from there or only the tops of the roofs below you? I was wondering if you can actually see the sun set into the water from that vantage point. From 4400 you look straight out into the ocean but the sunsets are off to the right.

Right now the sun sets in the northeastnorthwest and the northeast northwest is orange county. So no sunsets in the ocean
But in the winter when the sunsets in the southwest, then there are wonderful sunsets from the resort.

The resort seems to have approximately half of the units facing more northwest and half facing more southwest....where the midpoint is just about the center of the resort footprint. The 3200 and 3100 buildings certainly can see more in the northwest direction, which is where the sun was setting. I could see some great colors from the sunset from our 3200 balcony, but the corner of building 3100 was cutting off where it appeared it would be dropping into the water. Perhaps the 3100 building could have an even better vantage point for that. I was in the 3rd floor, which was the lowest floor of villas (parking below that) but we had an unobstructed view directly to the ocean....no rooftops to look at, etc. The villa was very nice....certainly not old and beat up in any way.

We did enjoy a great dinner at the Beachcomber one evening and had a perfect view of the sun setting into the water there. Absolutely spectacular.

I think you mean northwest Bill. I've never seen the sun set in the northeast ;)

Platinum Owner

Our last stay we checked in on a platinum owners week we rented.the owner was there and the room assigned was dark and had no view. The owner told us this happens and to refuse the room and go back to the desk Did this and got a great unit. We have stayed there about 8 times and like the resort. The ocean views are far away but the sunset good.
Have Fun.

Been there once. Others will certainly know more than me. However, this resort has as close to "theatre seating" as I've seen----buildings are parallel to ocean and mainly to each other (sort of) and go up a hill. There are a lot of ocean views. We got one that was only blocked by tall trees on a golf course, which also overlooked the ocean. Really nice place. And I never realized the frozen banana spoofed in "Arrested Development" is real!

In my room now after the 2nd night. Nice property but the bedrooms were not as large as I expected. King in the master and queen in the 2nd bedroom.

We ended up in 3920. Master has a nice view but balcony is partially blocked by trees on the side of the road. Overall it's nice and quiet.

Curious as to what you specifically requested? Did the assignment fall within the request parameters?

Thanks,
Ryan

I requested 3800,3900,4000 or 4100 upper floors. They fulfilled the building request but didn't get the floor. I requested upper floors and got 2nd floor.

It's still nice. I think had I been more toward the middle of the building it would be fine. We are on the side right next to the street and trees.

Hi,

when requesting your villa/room preferences...instead of listing three or four different buildings, has anyone just listed one or maybe only two? If you own multiple weeks there and will only be satisfied with one building (not caring where within that building), do you think Marriott will go the extra mile in accommodating that request? I had a friend who listed only one building in all three preferences that he was allowed and they accommodated it. Was that a fluke? Has anyone else tried this tactic? We are going there in August and was thinking of doing this but don't want to risk getting an undesired building.

Bill

I only list one...

I only ask for one, and we always get it. I suspect we are in the riff-raff ;) section because we mostly meet renters or exchangers in the hot tub. We have rotated through the same couple of units for probably 10 years, it is close to the golf course, no view, easy pool access, and easy-peasy out to the sidewalk to Newport Coast drive. Also simple for us to tell our visitors "same place as last year".

One of these times I am going to pick the very best room and ask for that. I think they owe us.

But this is the bazillion dollar question: Which is the ultimate building? The most preferred room? I doubt we could all come to a consensus.

IMHO The 4000 bldg is the ultimate spot. Every room has a unmatched view of the golf course and ocean with nothing in front of you to make noise (like the park in front of the 38XX & 39XX bldgs ) It is also close to the park and a short walk to the main pool / club house complex. We also have never stayed in that bldg as we almost always get the 43xx- 46xx bldgs
