When I first came to this site I accidentally bought a studio fixed week timeshare at Santa Barbara in Pompano by accident. We told Wyndham about the mistake and they said they'd see what they can do. Well we never paid on it because we were waiting. We finally received a letter today saying we could sign the unit over to Wyndham and they would excuse us from all previous and future payments. My wife is an attorney and everything is on the up and up. We just have to sign and notarize the letter within 20 days and they take back over the property at no cost to us.

A friend of mine told me because they are renovating Santa Barbara, and the market is back in full swing, they are buying back and offering settlements for a lot of properties. I'm glad I was one of the lucky ones!

:banana::banana:  Bye Bye fixed week in Mid September!

The Wyndham Santa Barbara was totally rebuilt about 5 years ago... they might be changing the sofas, but renovating ... don't think so.

And after due to the lovely winter we are having, Florida is Snowbird season is booming ... but like you figured out, September is not PRIME season in FL ... it is hurricane season.

The cost to convert it to points was just crazy. I'm just glad to be rid of it. I've learned so much from this site, including fixing mistakes like this!

I edited your title for clarity. Just because they took back your timeshare certainly does not mean this is the norm - in fact, it is not!

Thanks Denise. I always see people ask whether it really happens. Just wanted to be one if the witnesses that it does. I appreciate the clarity.

What I don't get is how someone "accidentally" bought a timeshare. It involved some bit of effort when we bought ours. I can see how it could be considered a bad decision, but not an accident.

I was thinking the exact same thing!

You are both correct! LOL. When I first started looking into Wyndham I thought that fixed weeks were converted to points and I could use them anywhere. Lack of research on my part.

That is NOT even close to the DUMB stuff I have heard over the years .... some have been people who paid the developer NOT ONCE, but 3 or 4+ times - to "get the RIGHT points EVERY YEAR for their floating MB vacation week in July when that info is not released to the employees until Dec 1 (Oceanfront & a 3/2 unit).

The most common line - is the salesman who they met less than 90 minutes early, tells them, THEY are their personal guide to help them do ALL their vacation planning - just call his/her cell. Yep, 90 minutes and their new BFF promises --- they drop $25-60,000+. And then, they go to another sales promo for $100 gift card and sign off on the exact same promises for another $35,000+ vacation package with the developer.

I think timeshare sales persons buy disposable cell phones by the six pack.
