We returned from Boston's Marriott Custom House in October----
stayed on 16th Floor ----- What a wonderful time to be there,
when the Sox were in the playoffs and the town was crazy fun.
here are a few pics....only 20. Love Boston!!!!
So easy to get around, but we enjoy walking the city! When we're exhausted
we take the T. And Boston is such a romantic town....at least we made it so.
So much to do, see, and enjoy.... and did I mention the food? OMG

Be happy.....I left out 100 pictures. Should have done a link
for those, but..... These aren't necessarily the best, but just some
random favorite quirky shots......all are only cell phone quality, sorry.......

Actually some of my best were taken in October of 2012, when we stayed
at Marriott's Long Wharf Hotel, just across the street from the Custom House. We had so much fun we returned.

My beautiful, sweet wife Mona is standing under the canopy
at Union Oyster House in pic #10.
Pic #6 was a most romantic meal at Mamma Maria's, 2nd floor window.
One of best restaurants in North End....

I go to Boston usually 1x a year and sometimes more. Being a Yankee fan, but not a huge baseball fan and New Yorker, I can tell you that I think there is no better atmosphere then Fenway to watch a ball game.

In addition to that, we love Boston no matter what time of year. It is a great city.

Great pictures. Loved the manhole cover. Quite artistic.

These were amazing. Thank you.

I am sooo in the mood for those candied apples now. Need to hunt them down.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

I just love Boston. Not home, but close to it. And I would never miss an opportunity to walk the Freedom Trail anytime I'm home for a visit.

(Home as in my original roots).

Great pictures. I grew up just outside of Boston in Lexington, however, moved away after the Blizzard of 1978. I take my family back for a visit almost every year. Lately it's been in the fall to check out the foliage. This year it will be the Cape and Boston in August. I just can't get enough of the food or the Red Sox. As a footnote, if Boston was this nice in the 60's and 70's I would have stayed!

I moved here 12 years ago. From what I hear, Mayor Menino did a lot to make the city what it is today. Twenty years in office and now health problems have made him retire. I hope the new mayor is as successful and as beloved.

I am originally from MA. We have been living in NC for the past 7 years. We love our life down here, but every so often we miss Boston, especially in the fall. Thanks for sharing the great photos. They bring back some great memories!

I complain about it a lot, but really it's not a bad place to spend a few years. It's expensive and traffic is bad, but it's got trees and parks and the ocean.

Plus I went from where they say bubbler (Wisconsin) to where they say bubbler (Boston) and will be retiring to a place they say bubbler (Wollongong, NSW), so I guess it all works out...

New to TUG and considering purchase of Marriott Boston

Hello everyone. I am new to TUG but I think Marriott Vacation Club is the way to go for my family. I live about 90 minutes from Boston and I see that there are some good deals right now in the TUG classifieds for a week 1 - 52 floating annual for 1500.00. Since I am a bit green when it comes to timeshares, etc., I am looking for advice. If I purchase a Marriott VC timeshare resale, would that automatically be points that I would receive? Also, do you know If this property has good trading power? I would probably use it whenever I couldn't trade it (especially if I can use it anytime of the year); however, I would love to get to Florida, Myrtle beach, etc. at least every other year or so. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, do you find that Ebay sellers are legitimate? Any other timeshare brokers that you recommend? Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Welcome to Tug, btw :hi:

To answer some of your questions- resale weeks are not eligible for enrollment in the DC program, and therefore cannot be traded for points. They can be traded for other properties using II.

You mentioned a few desired trades, but to best answer your questions we need a bit more info- when do you want to travel, what is your travel flexibility, and what size unit do you want?

For example, while Custom House trades well, they are 1 BR units. If you are looking for a prime summer Myrtle Beach week your chances of success will be very different than if you are looking for an off season week. If you need a summer Myrtle Beach week, then Custom House units may not be your best bet. Orlando weeks are much easier to get, and there are several different properties, but if you are looking for prime weeks at Ocean Pointe/Palms or Marco, then that might be different.

Ok, let me make sure I understand. If I purchase a MVC resale I would be able to trade with other MVC properties as well as II (Interval Intl) properties? Since Marriott Boston is a small unit, I may have a harder time trading. Would I be able to trade for any weeks (1-52) with other MVC and II properties? I, of course like many, am looking for prime weeks such as week 7 and week 17 to coincide with my son's school vacation. Worse case scenario, I cant find a trade for those weeks, would I be guaranteed one of those weeks at the Marriott Boston? Sorry for all of the questions...its just all so confusing to me but I feel like there are good deals to be had. I forgot to mention that I would typically be looking for a 2br and not tons of flexibility since I have to work around school vacations and sports. However, I can book far in advance as we get the school schedules very early.

To my knowledge the Custom House does not sell an inclusive 1-52 floating timeshare. You can buy Gold weeks which are weeks 1-18 and 47-52, OR Platinum weeks 19-46. However, you could buy either and attempt a trade for the week you want thru II. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken.

Maybe we should move this inquiry over to a thread of its own ?

Expert Marriott Owners, please correct this info if any of if is wrong.

As a recent CH owner, here is how I understand my CH ownership:

1. Although they're all one bedrooms, they trade like 2 bed with II.

2. You can split your ownership week for your own stays at the CH.

3. It is not a lock-off, therefore you cannot get 2 weeks deposit from it.

4. You do not get Marriott Rewards Points for/with your unit .

5. Not eligible for DC membership (as noted in a post above).

They say "bubbler" in Wisconsin? I have never heard that in the Milwaukee area, and I am there a lot. Of course, it is not something that comes up a lot in normal daily conversation.

I'm originally from the South Coast of Massachusetts. I told one of my students the other day to go get a drink from the bubbler. Had to correct myself and then said water fountain. And oh yes, I did not say bubbler, I said bubblah!

The word originates with Kohler, which is stil headquartered in Kohler, Wisconsin. It's fairly common in Milwaukee and Madison (where the some of the first "bubblers" were installed and are still in use around the state capital building). I'm less sure why Massachusetts and Australia (where any kind of drinking fountain is rare) use the word.

As a recent CH owner, here is how I understand my CH ownership:

1. Although they're all one bedrooms, they trade like 2 bed with II.

Not sure if they carry the same trade power as a 2BR Marriott in II, but they are allowed to place an ongoing request for a 2BR. Though I still don't think you can place a request for a 2BR unit at resorts that have 2BR lockoffs. So I don't see how this is any benefit whatsoever.

From the II Buyers Guide:
MVCI Owners of one-bedroom unit Weeks at Marriott’s Aruba Ocean Club,
Marriott’s Custom House, Marriott’s Grande Vista, Marriott’s Kauai Beach
Club, Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club, and Marriott’s Mountain Valley Lodge at
Breckenridge are eligible to request two-bedroom units at MVCI Resorts
that do not have one-bedroom units.

2. You can split your ownership week for your own stays at the CH.

Correct, you can book nightly stays at Custom House, for additional $29 fee per reservation.

From the my-vacationclub.com website:
Daily
For Marriott's Custom House, you may reserve up to seven one-night stays within the same year during the season you purchased. If requesting to reserve a Friday or Saturday stay, these days must be used in combination and are limited to one weekend stay per usage year.

  • Option Fee: $29* for each reservation
  • Two-day (Friday, Saturday) must be used together
  • Five-seven day (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) can be used individually
    • Use all days together consecutively
    • Use a single day (seven daily separate reservations)
    • Use any combination of the days (i.e., Monday and Tuesday together, remaining individually)
    • Use all on the same day (multiple villas on the same day)

3. It is not a lock-off, therefore you cannot get 2 weeks deposit from it.

No lockoffs. Only 1BR units.

4. You do not get Marriott Rewards Points for/with your unit .

If you bought resale on the secondary market you can't exchange your week for Marriott Reward Points. If you bought through an approved broker or through the Marriott Resales Department, you may be able to trade you week for MRPs.

5. Not eligible for DC membership (as noted in a post above).

Correct. Since you purchased externally (resale) after 6/20/2010, your week is not eligible for enrollment in the Destinations Club program. Thus you can not convert it to DC points.

Thank you. This is very helpful. ETA -Now I understand the finer points of the 2 bedroom trade up - fine print.

Should I have received an II buyer's guide ? I got my units in that on-site auction a while back, but I don't recall an II buyer's guide.
I have never traded my 2 Plat CHs as I enjoy the MRPs and the great hotels that I've stayed in. This is why trading them is not my strong suit, but maybe someday.

I think the II Buyers Guide is available electronically on the II website. Check out the Legal Information link in the bottom right of their website.
