Short Stay and using DC points?

Is this possible in an II property that is NOT a Marriott? Got the new *book* yesterday, and I can easily see how to do this in a Marriott, and how TO use DC points to stay a WEEK in a non-Marriott - but what if I wanted to use DC points to pay for a Short Stay in an II? There is no chart, and no explanation - so I am assuming this cannot be done, right? When viewing the Short Stay scrolling chart/calendar combination - is this IT? That is in fact the list of places/destinations that participate EVER? Or is this seasonally updated? I tried looking in the present, the future, and the distant future - same list, always. The II book descriptions makes it sound so easy - but it seems to me that the reality is not the same. Am I missing anything - or is this pretty much what to expect?

Thanks - Mamianka

If you are referring to the 2013 II Buyers Guide, the chart is on page 5 (page 6 of the PDF) right under the full week exchange values chart.

Thank you for the link, since I have NEVER before seen this document in my life - all our purchases were done before May of 2010; since we refuse to attend any more sales meetings, perhaps we are *written off* as DONE with purchasing - or is this sent to people who actively express an interest in purchasing?. I was referring to the World Traveler Collection book sent to all owners (I would think!) every year; there is indeed a chart for using DC points for a full week, but the breakdown chart by days of the week does NOT appear anywhere in that volume - not this year, not last year, and I do not think for previous years - I would have seen it. I also have not seen it on the II site - but have only recently begun to consider Short Stays, so I admit that if on the site, I could have missed it. If there - where?

My other question - is the drop-down scroll that appear on the II site Short Stay page *cast in concrete* - these are the ONLY properties that now participate in this program? I know that some I am interested in say "limited exchange", and do not appear here, but may we ONLY choose Short Stay from that scrolling list? Or does a phone call (and a lot of luck) allow us entree to others? Is it a Legacy versus Trust Point thing, too? A Premium versus Plebian thing?

Thanks.

The problem with ShortStay is that is is usually short notice exchanges in to areas with over supply of inventory. So exchanging in to Orlando, Las Vegas, or Palm Desert is probably doable. HHI in winter is probably also a possibility. Don't even think about peak season ShortStay exchanges, they simply won't happen. You can use DC points for ShortStay in to Marriott and non Marriott resorts. Keep in mind that you must be II Gold in order to book ShortStay.

I have booked quite a few short stays. I have to say that in my opinion they have an extremely limited value added purpose. They are completely non-cancelable and non-retradable. Because of this there are much better options like booking a regular exchange and then adding an XYZ. The only purpose for me in which I have used them heavily are for holidays. XYZs can't be used for holidays but Short Stays can. Other than that the non-retradability is a deal killer.

They can also many times be used in areas that are either blocked or not yet open for XYZ. I would still usually rather pay extra to have the retrade option.

As I have access to more info, and now can do more research based on that, we are finding that these are really more bother than they are worth to us. Timesharing is not the only was we travel or entertain ourselves, and although we like to maximize our value on whatever we do, this whole Short Stay thing is probably just as bad as those AC certificates, etc. Getting them to lineup with concert tickets, operas, and even pro sports tickets would be a nightmare, given the *grab it now!* nature of the SS. Thanks for the info, folks - knowledge is always valuable - but this is not for us, it seems.
