Off to Kauai Lagoons Today

Well, we wrapped up our stay and returned home from Hawaii on Sunday. We had a great two weeks. Both resorts were great.

While Kauai Lagoons is a fantastic resort with a great view from our IV villa, I wouldn't put it in the top three resorts that we have visited. We had some housekeeping issues during our stay. The tile floor in the villa was in need of some water and a mop. After walking on it for a few minutes, the bottoms of our feet would turn black. This is not the only resort we have had this issue at. Also, after returning to our room after a mid week tidy, we found a toilet brush left behind on the dresser in the third bedroom. Stopped up toilets in the bathrooms of the fitness center on the last day of our stay while we were killing time at the activity center waiting to leave for the airport was not impressive. I reported this issue to the front desk, but they hadn't fixed it before we had to leave.

I wrote a longer review that hasn't posted yet. The villa and view at Kauai Lagoons is great. The resort is secluded, but doesn't have a lot of onsite amenities. If we return to Kauai in the future and don't need a 3BR unit, I think we will try out the Waiohai property. We visited there for the day and it has much more the big resort feel that Ocean Pointe, Grande Vista and some of the other large resorts have. Kauai Lagoons felt much the same as Crystal Shores. They have the villa, patio and view going for them, but as for other amenities, they are limited.

I am not sure that this is where the sidewalk ends other than the fact that it is where the roadway ends. Don't get me wrong. It is a great resort and we had a great stay. If the resort didn't have that view and was located elsewhere, it would be underwhelming. I think it is what it is because of where it is. If you have a large group, it is the only property on Kauai with 3BR units, so it worked great for our group of five adults. If just two of us or a smaller group traveling, I would look at one of the other Marriott properties on Kauai.

Another example of how tastes differ and the Marriott system has something to suit all tastes. We absolutely love Kauai Lagoons and as far as activities and amenities are concerned, the Maui Marriott Resort is just a 3 minute shuttle ride away. We thought Waiohai was underwhelming for adults, although it too is a great resort and we used to own there. Kauai Lagoons is the one resort we might like as much as the Maui Ocean Club. I think it would be a great resort wherever it was located.

That's an amazing shuttle.

That's an amazing shuttle.

Are you saying this in jest because it seems that it would take longer than 3 minutes for the shuttle to get to the hotel, or because you have actually used the shuttle?

We didn't use the shuttle, but the shuttle drivers didn't seem very friendly. I witnessed one of the drivers lecturing a guest checking in that they shouldn't be parked in the loop outside the lobby. That it was for the shuttle. Not sure if the driver missed the sign that indicated registration and pointed up in to the small loop. The shuttle could have very well driven down the lot and done a three point turn in the empty spaces. That is what our Roberts Hawaii driver did with their van when we took the movie tour on Kauai.

As for amenities at the Kauai Marriott. I wasn't aware that any of those could be used by Kauai Lagoons guests. Other than the beach, which is open to the public and the ability to spend in their shops and restaurants. The pool however was off limits to Kauai Lagoons guests.
