Grand Canyon: Proof that Nature Rocks! (35 Pics)

Grand Canyon: Proof that Nature Rocks! (35 Pics) - From LoveThesePics.com

Great Pics. I'm ready to go back, and seeing the Grand Canyon from the North Rim is also on my list.

Richard

Seeing the GC from the North Rim is actually a better view than from the South Rim. You're higher up, there is less haze, and the scenery is more dynamic. There are also only a fraction as many visitors to the North Rim, so it's much less crowded. I've seen both, and prefer the view from the North Rim. :)

We love the Grand Canyon. It really is one of nature's most awe inspiring beauties.

Thanks for the pics, they're beautiful.

I also agree that the North Rim is the best. There are not as many overlooks, but they are spectacular!! shaggy

Just curious, what is the best TS to reserve to visit the North Rim? Or would you just stay at a TS near the South Rim and drive around to the North Rim?

Thx

We stayed in St. George, Utah, (Villas at Southgate timeshare), and drove to the North Rim from there, as part of a multi-day trip. You could stay outside the South Rim, or even in Flagstaff, and drive to the North Rim. We stayed overnight in one of the rustic log cabins inside the North Rim. It put us there at sunrise, which is not to be missed. After viewing the sunrise, having a great breakfast in the North Rim Lodge, we drove back through Zion to St. George. It was an incredible trip!

FANTASTIC! That sounds awesome. I didn't think about St. George. Wow, from there someone could hit Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon and Zion NP. Very cool!

You're exactly right. We specifically went the last week of September four years ago, when the Fall color was at its height, and we took full advantage: We flew into Las Vegas, (rented a car with free mileage), and headed two hours up the freeway to St. George. Spent two nights in the timeshare in St. George, seeing Zion during the day (it's only 45 minutes from St. George.) Then one night in a motel outside Bryce Canyon, (to get sunset and sunrise over Bryce Canyon.) Then the next day we went to Kodachrome State Park, then drove Utah's Scenic Highway 12 through the Escalante to Torrey (incredible Fall color along the way, over the Hogsback.) Overnight in a second motel in Torrey, which let us see Capitol Reef National Park. Then we drove back on Highway 12, and dropped down to the North Rim of Grand Canyon. Stayed the third night in a rustic cabin inside the park, did the sunset and sunrise, had breakfast in the North Rim Lodge, then drove back up through Kanab (very cool Old West town where they filmed many Westerns) and through Zion from Mt. Carmel Junction. On to St. George where we relaxed the last two nights at the timeshare before driving back to Las Vegas, turning in the rental car, and flying home. it was a whirlwind week, and we put 1500 miles on the rental car (Yikes!!), but the trip was amazing!! :D

We did this trip too ~ awesome!! We flew into Vegas, drove down and saw Hoover Dam, then up to St. George. From there we saw the North Rim of GC, Bryce, Zion, Kolrobe, and lots more. Fantastic Vacation! And I agree with most ~ both rim views are fantastic, but the south is more touristy, the north - serene. I vote North. Thanks to the OP for the pictures ~ they were wonderful!! Jarred lots of great memories!:banana:

How many days would you plan for a trip like that? We're not day long hikers, mostly short hikes for sight seeing.

Thanks

We did it in a week. Two days at the timeshare, three nights in motels, and the last two days in the timeshare. We had it as a Weeks exchange, so were locked in for the seven night stretch.

If I had it to do over again, I'd add three more nights, to give two nights at each motel location, so we'd have more time to see stuff. I'd also either split the timeshare portion into two two-night stays at either end of that, or skip the timeshare part altogether and just stay in motels.

The issue is one of distance. To see that much in that short a time isn't so bad, but you have to drive a fair bit to get to where you want to be. The nice part is the scenery as you're driving is really nice, so it becomes part of the experience. I'd do this trip again anytime. :)
