I posted a few days ago about a re-exchange I made to Ko Olina that caused me to lose the penthouse unit. I was disappointed when that happened but still got the reservation I needed so everything was fine really.

This morning I woke up to an II confirmation notice that I matched a 2BR St. Kitts week in January for my daughter's birthday I was looking for. Interestingly enough....it came through with my Hyatt request. I'm completely surprised! I never thought I would get January St. Kitts with my Hyatt. I don't know how it made it through Marriott preference but I'll take it.

We'll see how we like St. Kitts. There's the other thread right now where there are some not happy with the property. I'll give a full report as well when we get back in January. I'm a little concerned and am wondering if I should just cancel the exchange and try to get something else but I think we'll give it a try.

I think that is great. Really, how bad can it be there? Services may not measure up to other Marriotts, but it is still probably better than 90% of most of the timeshares and it is St. Kitts in January!! I don't know where you live, but I'd sleep on the beach to miss January at home.

JanT, congratulations on your nice trade. Glad to hear that things worked out on both fronts. Interesting to see that you got the trade for St Kitts. There must not have been any requests from Marriott owners at this time, so you were next in line and had enough value with what you traded for it. Have a great time.

A great result and as January really is peak season in St Kitts you have the best chance of there being more organised activities available if that is of interest to you
(you probably saw that this was highlighted as a resort limitation in the other thread)
One tip, if you are planning to get out and about on the island you might want to consider avoiding the busy cruise ship days

I vote you go and see the island! We own and while it's not perfect, the resort is still gorgeous and is among the top timeshares in the Caribbean.

We overlook some of the service issues due to the fact that the island is new to tourism. But the quality of the food there is comparable to a US Marriott and the rooms are huge. The pools are beautiful and the resort is really nicely laid out.

Our only real complaint is the lack of reasonable and convenient airfare. We typically do a week in SXM with the week in SKB, so it makes the second set of airfares and flights a non issue.

As a comparison, we stayed at the Hyatt TS in Dorado PR, and were disappointed in the number of unruly locals there (not sure if they were resot guests or not), and the poor upkeep of the rooms. Lots of damaged and broken things...It was not a good advertisement if they were looking for buyers!!! LOL But we had a great time and the resort itself was very nice. And we would go back there if we're heading to PR.

Don't let the reviews of a few others sway you--it really was a discussion of the rating, and that's all relative to individual expectations. We love the Caribbean and this island is beautiful.

Looking forward to st kitts maybe next year
Is the island more green or dry? We prefer islands with mountainous lush landscape rather than dry Aruba

Yes and hopefully you will enjoy the fact that it has an expanding rainforest and an impressive 3792 foot dormant volcano which you can climb to the crater (if you are feeling seriously energetic!)
Take a look at the island's tourism brochure
