I just had an interesting experience related to the subject of this thread. I wanted to try to get a two-bedroom exchange at a particular resort through II using a one-bedroom deposit. The resort has two sections, each with its own II code. One section has two-bedroom units only while the other has studios plus one- and two-bedroom units. I was doing instant online searches but decided to try to submit an ongoing request for a unit in the section that has two-bedrooms only. Last Saturday, I submitted such a request, using the II code for that section. I was concerned because I noticed that when I did instant searches for that II code I was also shown availability for the other section. If the request also searched both sections of the resort I would probably get confirmed to one-bedroom units, if any. I called II and talked to a rep who said that no, the request would only search the section which I had specified. The next morning (Sunday) I received a confirmation for a one-bedroom unit in the other section. I called II and told the rep that I would like to cancel the exchange and withdraw the request. However, the rep said that she could see both sections in the request but that she could remove the section I didn't want. She claimed to have done so and reinstated the search. The next two mornings (Monday and Tuesday)I again received confirmations for a one-bedroom unit. When I called on those mornings, each time the rep said not to cancel the search, that the previous rep had not properly removed the section with one-bedrooms and that it could be done. The rep on Tuesday said she would also put it in the notes that I only wanted confirmation for a unit in the section that I had originally requested. On Wednesday morning I again recieved an email confirmation for a unit in the other section. As I was about to call again something told me to look at the certificate a bit more closely and was surprised to see that it was for a two-bedroom unit.
So, with a bit of hassle, I was able to get a two-bedroom with a smaller deposit, but not in the way that I had expected.
