How do you get the Kindle Keyboard to sign onto a Hotel WIFI to download books? She got it in 2010 so it's not new. It's not a problem at home...just at the hotel.

We can't get it to sign on to the wifi...front desk guy tried and couldn't. I called their ATTWIFI and he didn't know how either.

We have no problem signing on with an iPad, etc., but this Kindle doesn't tell us what's wrong...other than a little note near the top of her book list 'unapproved sender'.

We went to 'Turn Wireless On' and that didn't work.

Then went to 'Settings' to view WIFI settings. It showed only one available...attwifi which is correct.

Clicked on 'connect' and it says 'connecting' for a few minutes and then says 'unable to connect...try again, set up network, or cancel.'.

Tried 'set up network' and now it asks connection type (DHCP or STATIC) and Security Type (none, wep, wpa, wpa2). Didn't know what to select..whatever we tried didn't work and wouldn't accept the 'tower' password.

We're about ready to go to Denny's to do it. :(

Thanks for the link as it led me to a temporary solution. Couldn't get the wifi to work but there was a description of how to plug into a laptop with USB and manage the Kindle from there. A bit of a nuisance but it worked and she's got some books to read now. :)

Btw...we did go to Denny's and still couldn't get the Kindle to sign on...even without a password.

That's really strange. I have a Kindle version 2, I think it is. I jsut turn it on, turn the "Wireless on" and it comes up with a list of available networks, some with passwords, some without. Just click on the one and it does it all automatically.

Strange it wouldn't work with a free wifi like they would have at Dennys.

Hi Bev...I find it strange too, especially in a free Internet area like McD's, etc. it's almost like she shut something off by mistake (too many buttons to push when frustrated). The USB transfer via the laptop worked OK but not the way it's supposed to work.
