Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a floating week at SVR through resale and my in-laws recently attended an ownership update where the sales guy told them all floating weeks that are purchased through resale would lose their ability to float. Has anyone heard about this? I wasn't sure if this was just a sales tactic.

Thanks

There are many different designations at this resort - some are floating weeks, and some are true fixed weeks. This designation is deeded - buying resale won't change that.

However, I wouldn't BUY a timeshare at SVR at all when they are giving them away for free on eBay. I suggest that you take some time and do your homework before you buy. This is a nice resort, but the timeshares have no resale value, and they have lower trading value, because Florida has more supply than demand. I am an owner here, but I would not consider acquiring another timeshare here unless it was a TRUE fixed Christmas or New Years week, for the highest trading value and rental value. You can easily trade a Christmas or New Year's week for any other week of the year.

For more info. about how Starwood works, and the difference between retail and resale, see the Starwood FAQ at the top of the forum.

Thanks, I thought that was the case with the floating designation. I am looking at listings on both eBay and the marketplace here and wouldn't pay anything for the unit except part of the closing fees.

How do you plan to use your purchase?

The wife and I have been renting a unit from my in-laws for the past 5 years at SVR. With the addition of our son who is now 1, we would probably continue to use the home resort. But I could see us trading out to Myrtle beach or Arizona in the future.

With advanced planning, this should be an easy trade through Interval International, as long as you don't need holiday weeks.

Is there any advantage to owning a specific section for a 2br? For instance we prefer the Fountains section, should I only look for fountains resale?

Yes - because when you make a home resort reservation they will assign you to the Fountains section.
