On Sunday the Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel on Miami Beach was assaulted with force by its owner in a bid to takeover the hotel. The takeover was unsuccessful.

This is the second such attempt on a Marriott property in recent times. A similar incident occured with the first Edition branded hotel in Hawaii.

Goes to show that Management companies such as Marriott and its owners don't always see eye to eye on things.

Poor guests. Now it’s time for damage control and legal maneuvering.

Marriott steamrolling the real owners after failing to meet anyone's goals (except there own I'm sure). Nothing to see here - move along. The timeshare owners should be all too familiar with this situation. The Marriott way (and excessive costs) or the highway. Always pleases me when I remember how close we twice came to buying into Marriott but wisely have always traded or rented to get all we ever wanted to visit instead. I only fel for those that got locked into a great system but a bad "deal". It could easily be so much better but not as long as Marriott holds all the cards and the owners pay as required.

The overall long term history of Marriott Corp and their hotels is not good. Most fail to keep the Marriott name beyond 5-10 years max. It hasn't been as bad but still has occurred - and may well again - in the timeshare side as costs keep growing way beyond any inflation rate.

Two sides to every story......

Before jumping to any conclusions on what happened, I would suggest getting the full story from both sides.

As I understand the situation, the ownership group couldn't finish the renovation project of about $300M and Marriott finished it for them.

The ownership group also has other investments that went sour during the latest recession. This prompted them to focus their sights on Marriott to attempt to recover their bad investments as soon as possible.

The hotel was beautifully restored but regrettably, it opened back up in 2008 right in the mist of the deepest downturn for the country.

Marriott made the investment for the long-term in the property. Unfortunately, the money starved owners did not put its customers and guests first on Sunday. That's not the way you handle disagreements in business!

IMHO, Marriott is not the bad guy here......

Now that is simply a false statement.

Rule # 7 in the posting rules prevents any response on my part to your post. Let's just say I disagree with your rant.

Now that is simply a false statement.

Here in the UK, the property company that owned a bunch of Marriott hotels went bust. .he bank foreclosed on the loans and took ownership of the properties and is selling them on. They remain Marriotts.
Like you I find the statement to be totally false.

I just completed a trip of 2 weeks to Florida. Stayed 9 nights in Marriotts. 7 were at Cypress Harbour which is a great resort. One at the Miami airport Marriott which was a good acceptable hotel after a late flight into Miami from London. The other was at the Singer Island Resort which is awesome.

Rule # 7 in the posting rules prevents any response on my part to your post. Let's just say I disagree with your rant.

Posting Rule #7, Part-1: " Honor changes entered by moderators
You may not alter, edit, or delete any edits introduced into your message by a Moderator or Administrator. This is considered a serious offense and may result in loss of posting privileges. "

Posting Rule #7, Part-2: " In addition, do not enter complaints about moderation into BBS messages. Such posts will be considered off-topic and will be removed. Any such complaints or discussion should be communicated to the bbs staff directly via email or personal message. "

First, the Moderator, in Post #2, did NOT add any Moderator messages to the OP's original Post, #1.

Second, I did not read any moderation by the Moderator in Post #2, only personal non-moderator comments.

Therefore, Post #2 must be construed as "personal comments", of which you may comment, per Rule #7. And speaking as a Marriott owner myself, please do, since I also disagree the the anti-Marriott rant, specifically on the Marriott forum. :crash:

Ron,
I find it's best to let anti-Marriott rants just drop. Nobody learns anything, they don't have a wealth of factual information and as far as I can see they just repeat the same old talking points. Gee, that sounds just like a current event going on this Fall. Except we should all participate (vote) in that one.
