Family sues Marriott after allegedly contracting bed bugs

I never understood why they don't have housekeeping check the mattress (as part of their job) when they change the sheets. Why rely on the customer to report a problem

Hopefully lawsuits like this will help drive some changes in the hotel industry :wall:

The sad truth is that even the most elite hotels have had reports of bedbugs. That's because bed bugs are carried by guests and their luggage, and they are very difficult to eradicate. They are not an indication of poor house keeping or a dirty property.

You should always check the mattress yourself. Looks for dark spots, which are feces and blood, around the seams of the mattress where the bugs crawl back into the mattress:

I agree. Bed bugs are fairly common in hotels/timeshares. Happens at every single hotel chain because they can arrive on suitcases every day of the week and at every hotel.

From the link, "Sharyn Eles and Douglas Wade allege breach-of-contract, negligence, fraud and deceit and intentional infliction of emotional distress."

Yeah, it sucks and I'd be all over Marriott for that, but to sue for fraud, deceit and intentional infliction of emotional distress.....sounds like are a bit fragile.

With lawsuits, they often spray with the allegations to make sure they have all bases covered and can maximize settlement leverage and/or the potential judgment. Althou some of that stuff gets whittled down early on. Such is the game.

Love the American legal system that encourages opportunists to get rich, NOT! The nation with the highest per capita of lawyers. :annoyed:

The client (non-lawyer) has to hire the lawyer so I don't think all blame should be on the lawyer. It's horribly pathetic, I acknowledge, but there are a TON of people looking to get rich.
