Why do international sellers ask for SO MUCH more for their resales?

I was looking on ebay and the listings at the end of the last page shows international sellers. They are asking in the tens of thousands for these ts. I could never afford one of those, of course, but I wonder if they are better than the ones being sold domestically?

I want to purchase into marriott strictly for ko olina trades. I was thinking about a 2br lockoff at an eoy at a lower mf resort. Do these come by easily or should I just do an annual?

Thanks everyone and Happy Seafair Sunday from Seattle!!!

I would assume that their market of resales there might be smaller and therefore people who buy locally there pay more as there are less options ??? Based on that, the resellers out there put those inflated prices out there of what they are getting in their regions ???? Speculation I guess....

The ones they are selling are exactly the same as what is available here as most are selling North American timeshares but from overseas.

Check out Marriott Willow Ridge - it has the lowest MF and will get you what you want. Shadow Ridge is what many recommend but I think WR might be a better value as its lower MF and resale price. Ko Olina seems to be a relatively easy trade even without a Marriott property, let alone with one. My non-Marriott got me one, and now my Marriott allows me to see tonnes of availability more than with my non-Marriott, as such I ended up selling my non-Marriott as I am getting what I am looking for faster with my Marriotts and Starwood. Maui Ocean Club is a "harder trade" in relative terms - Ko Olina you see available just about all the time, and Maui you see quite frequently, just not as often as Ko Olina.

Just waiting for a sucker. That's all they are. International people can buy on "our" Ebay just the same. Those sellers are just waiting for a major sucker.

Sounds like Willow Ridge it is! I own at the Royal Sands Cancun week 50 and I was able to trade into Ko Olina a few times, but always the lockoff unit (even with the 1br). I would love to have a kitchen!!! I figure I will have a better chance if I trade Marriott to Marriott.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm glad tuggers are there to save me from being a sucker :)

But this is the thing, if they are selling on eBay, the people searching on eBay would be able to see all the prices of everyone selling, so why would anyone buy at an astronomical price when it is available for less than 5 % of what they are asking ? The ads are one after another so not sure how they get buyers even.

Larger units are available to be had with your non-Marriott, its just that you won't see it as often and you have to be more diligent in searching. I search every morning (6-7AM), during the day when I have time and in the evening. Basically anytime I have a few minutes, I just check on the hope I can find what I am looking for, even with my Marriott. So far that "obsession" has paid off with some great finds!

I can honestly say, ever since I bought my Marriott and Starwood, I have had so many more opportunities, options, selection and larger units than before. If it was me, I would even get rid of your other ones and just get these "branded" ones. MF's are not much more than non-branded which is your real long term cost. Not worth wasting time with them if you want to trade into Marriotts and Starwood. If you're going to travel, why not trade for the best places if you're going to be paying the same price ? Maybe I've been spoiled in this short time, but I don't think I can go back to lower quality places.

The OP assumes that the Overseas market is the same as the US market. Speaking from a European view that is not the case. Here the market is much smaller, EBAY is not the market maker. It is basically a medium for advertising. Few people actually buy and sell TS on EBAY.

So the EBAY medium advertises the agents and some of their TS's and asking prices. Also the TS resale market, especially for Marriotts is not so depressed as in the USA.

As a result resale prices in European Marriotts have not dropped to rock bottom as perhaps some have in the USA.

Whilst I could buy resales on EBay for resorts in the USA, I preferred resorts in Europe and Asia where I am not tied to property deeds and the resorts are RTU which is the norm in Europe.

That may be true, but my point is that I see a Marriott Willow Ridge selling $400 here but the European reseller has one listed for $12,000, why would anyone even approach them when you can get it for so much less ? If they were selling a Marriott Ocean Club Ocean view for $500 vs $15,000 here, I would definitely be contacting them. I wouldn't care where they were located as long as they have a good reputable history
