Recommend a resort (Marriott) for Sept vacation?

We are a little late in planning our Sept 2012 vacation. We own at Koolina and I can pull a 2 bedroom but wanted to perhaps check out another resort while we have the opportunity to travel in the off-season. Next year the kiddo will be in school so we can do Hawaii then. We love the beach and our son is 4 years old. We like to do things in addition to the beach and pools. Any recommendations?

I don't know if you are planning on driving or flying, but I loved Marriott Oceanwatch in Myrtle Beach, SC when we stayed there last year. The pools were really nice; and since there are no other resorts next door to Marriott, the beach was not that crowded. Broadway at the beach was fun for my kids. There also was a waterpark nearby.

Furthermore, I just came back from the Marriott Aruba Ocean Club and had an amazing time. It was cute seeing the Iguanas come out every morning, and the Surf Club has a lazy river as well as lots of activities for kids.

I heard Ocean Pointe in Florida is very nice (can't comment yet since we won't be staying there until August).

I am sure others will chime in. Whatever you decide, have a great time.

If you're on the west coast I would second the Newport destination. September is one of the best times to go there. The weather is great and the crowds are minimum because everyone is back in school. Thats what we did when our kids werent in school yet. Take advantage of it because when school comes into play with your vacations...it becomes somewhat of a rat race.

Enjoy the off season!

Enjoy the off season while you can! We continued to travel in the off season until about 3rd grade. We would pick a time when school would already be out a day or two for teacher workdays -- and then keep kids out for the rest of that week. It's OK to miss a few days here and there while they're in kindergarten or first or second grade. BUT missing school days starts to become a problem when they're in third grade. (We did this with the blessing of a lot of teachers in our family :whoopie: )

Ocean Watch or any of the Hilton Head beaches would still be fantastic.
Great beach at Ocean Pointe and Oceana Palms (and there is a neat exotic animal rescue facility near there where you can see animals... a child would like that http://www.mccarthyswildlifesanctuary.com/).

With a four year old-- Disney World is empty in September-- so you would not have to endure lines. Which would make it fun for you. I am a big fan of Legoland (Florida or California) for kids under 12 (actually, the younger the better). I would recommend Legoland for a day and one day of Disney World and then pool time at Lakeshore Reserve (remember you would also be able to use the pools at the JW Marriott).

Of course Newport Coast Villas would give you plenty of California beaches to choose from... and a day at Legoland. Also it would be within driving distance of San Diego Wild Animal Park.

Disneyworld empty in September? now that's a strong dose of wishful thinking. Maybe less crowded than July or August but not by much. The International Travelers keep it busy regardless.

Newport Coast and Disneyland, Legoland, and San Diego Zoo

Another vote for Newport Coast Villas in September! The weather is perfect, with sunny days and no rain -- typically highs around 80 degrees F and nighttime lows around 60 degrees F. It's the same weather as in August, but without the summer crowds.

LEGOLAND is great for younger kids but also fun for parents. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are now two of the world's best theme parks, with attractions and shows for all ages.

Hilton Head in September (or October) is great and lots of choices.

We've owned in Newport for 5 years and have never actually stayed at the resort but I must say more than any other resort we own and rent my renters will send me a note raving about our the Marriott Newport Coast Villas.

My sister and friends also went one year and have been to Aruba and Maui and they said they enjoyed Newport the best. I can't imagine that but with all the rave reviews it must be a very nice resort and area.

We're finally going next July but I'm sure Sept is a great month to go if you can considering schools will be in so crowds will be minimal.

we do live on the west coast and already did Disneyland this year. I was trying to go somewhere that wouldnt be so easy for us as we can go down south anytime. Sorry should have mentioned that.

Would you completely avoid the Caribbean in Sept because of hurricane season? Weve never been to the Caribbean.

No, I would not avoid the possibility of a great vacation in the Caribbean. Just make sure you consider travel insurance.

Aruba is south of the hurricane line, so it would be a good choice. My children ( now 30 and 33) grew up going there annually and love it to this day.

Aruba?

Ive always wanted to go to Aruba. Is it mostly beach activities or are there other things to do?

Website Touringplans.com monitors Disney crowds and makes forecasts.

What's posted so far:
Monday Sept 3 crowd level 6 (out of 10)
Tuesday Sept 4 crowd level 1 (out of 10)
Wednesday Sept 5 crowd level 1 (out of 10)

crowds through Aug 20 are 10 (out of 10) with a few exceptions of 9s.

--------------
Anyway, we have neighbors who go to St. Thomas or Aruba every August. As stated earlier, there's very little threat of hurricane action in Aruba. Our neighbors have never had a problem going during hurricane season. I personally would feel better with trip insurance if I were going then.

There's not a lot to do other than the beach. The other things to "do" can be done in less than a day. I don't think you would be taking a four year old on a dune buggy.

Thats interesting information. Thanks for sharing.

Do you know if this or any other group posts actual attendance figures (i..e. not Forecasts). I would think that Disney would not allow this information to be shared but maybe someone has figured out a way to get the historical information.

I have a friend who works at Disney World as part of their Latin American Sales and Marketing team. She always tells me October is the least crowded.

One warning about Orlando in September, is that it is hotter than a mother..... Especially early September. I know we wouldn't go back again in September. I would stick to Newport Coast or the Carolinas.

I second that! In Orlando, it is wicked hot, humid and rains a lot in early September.

Newport beach?

Ive been searching II within flex for Sept (this year) and never see Newport Beach come up. Never. Is there a reason why? Im doing my dummy search with my studio.

Maybe the secret's out? :D

I know that you are searching with Ko Olina, but have you tried looking with the one bedroom side? People have been reporting less success up trading with a studio, but I thought that that rule didn't apply during flex.
