My husband and I purchased 64,000 Club Wyndham points last year. Our use year is Jan 1 through Dec 31. We have the 64,000 points in our account and we also have a bonus 64,000 in our account also. How do I use them before the end of the year before they expire? Also, how do I know what my 64,000 points will get me when or if I transfer them over to RCI?

The first thing you should do is sign up for the wyndham website. When you get access to that you can start looking at resorts and availability to see what you want to book. This will also give you access to all the resorts and point charts to see where you would want to go. Just an FYI 64k isn't a whole lot of points to work with. Since you bought retail the first time (only way you can get bonus points), if you are looking to add points look at resale postings here on tug, wyndhamowners.org and ebay. You can add as many points as you want for a couple thousand dollars all the way down to free. Hope this helps.

Jason.

If you have not used your bonus points and cancelled the reservation, they should be good for two years. If they are showing up as cancelled points then they went to the use year that was the most forward and current. In your case, the January 1st to December 31st use year.

If you do not want go on vacation before the end of the year, you may want to consider credit pooling both to get a 3 year use right for one price ($39 dollars, I think).

or, for example:

Smokey Mountain: 08/30/2012 5 nights 1 Bedroom Suite B-side 66,000.

Credit pooling has to be done before the beginning of the use year. The Regular, Cancelled and Bonus points could be deposited in RCI to extend two years.

Sorry, I forgot this was not a Platium account that can do it up to 9 months prior to the end of the use year. Plan 2, get into the computer and find a resort or two that is close to where the original poster lives and look at a Sunday through _______ to use the 64,000 points.

WOW!!

I thought minimum contract Wyndham would write was 77K points and not sure how they came up with 64K as supposedly is in 7K point increments.

Anyway, do not go near a Wyndham salesperson as they will be upgrading you fast.

Just go to Wyndham web site and set up an account. Can browse at your leisure. Also, should have gotten a Club Wyndham Directory at time of purchase. On page 237 it shows RCI deposit info. The minimum studio/1BR is 74K points although you can deposit as few as 27K points, but have to pay $109 to consolidate subsequent deposits. Not worth it and $189 exchange fee!. Do last call/get-a-ways.

Also getting killed on POA fee. $117 for 64K points equals about $1.86/ 1,000. Need to pick up some reasale points free fast!

Keep in mind bonus points generally only good for two years and better to use now.

Paco,

I am confused by your statement that includes POA fee. What does that sentence mean to me as the owner? Don't even know what POA fee is. Can you explain?

Would love to pick up some resale points on the cheap. Where should I start looking?
I want to be able to at least get something for what we purchased. I didn't find this website until way after my recision period was over.

All the information on this website is fantastic, but I think after only a few days trying to sort out what I own and what I can do with it, my brain is on INFORMATION OVERLOAD!

eBay for cheap resale points. And this website:

And sometimes on this site I see people giving away contracts:

http://www.wyndhamowners.org/

Lots to process, I know. But do sign up for the Wyndham site as you've been told in previous posts. I just got my first (resale) contract last month & already have a trip booked.

I have been tracking eBay sales for about a month and there have been auctions for 49k points.

Yes, back in the day of great flood Wyndham actually sold 28K contracts which would get a quiet week studio at old resorts.. Also, could be banked with RCI and get nice 1BR and if timing right a 2 BR deluxe during prime season.

Since contracts cannot be sub-divided those on ebay were probably sold pre Y2K!

Circa 2002 when I needed just 48K points to get VIP, lowest any resort could sell me was 63K and most wanted 77K saying token sales commission on small sales.

Ones Wyndham MF has two parts.

There is HOA fee which is what it costs to run the specific resort you are deeded at and have ARP. It is determinded by budget and how many points one owns. As a point of reference Wyndham has CWA program where one has ARP at some 56 resorts and HOA(membership) fee is $4.89/ 1,000 points based on average!

There is a separate POA fee which covers the cost of operating VOI Trust which handles common functions like reservations, Directories, owner communications, etc. and is also used to pay your "free" RCI membership. For Developer purchases is $117 minimum and resales $98 as Plus Partners does not transfer nor VIP.

.

With the new RCI/Wyndham portal there are not seperate deposits to be consolidated. There is just a total point balance just like there is with your Wyndham account. There will different expiration dates depending on when you deposited your points but no $109 fee to consolidate points.

Ithink all your questions have been answered in one or the other posts above..but be sure to read through them all, as some posters have made mistakes that others have corrected

What hasnt been mentioned as a possible strategy with small accounts like yours is use the credit pool, not for 2012 points but rather for next years points....You can take your 2013 points and even your 2014 points and add them to the credit pool Then use them for reservations now.

so you could make a reservation(s) this year for 192000 points plus the bonus points

Of course that means you wont have any points to use next year. but your maintenance fees will continue so dont do this unless you plan to buy more (resale)

by the way the owners manual is available on line, the link is in the stickies at the top of the forum

WOW! Thanks so much for all the information. I have gained a much greater understanding after much reading on this website and from all of your helpful hints in this thread. I actually think it's all starting to make sense now!! THANKS A BUNCH!

Looks like I'm off to buy some resale points, because obviously my 64,000 points don't get me much. I will not buy retail. I'll have to go check out more on buying resale. Can't wait to take a much needed vacation with the husband and kids. After absorbing and learning everything from this website, I need a vacation all on my own just to let my brain recover from the information overload I mentioned earlier.

Glad you are profiting from all our experiences. It is an information overload and takes some time to fully understand how it all works. Please do be patient with yourself and make sure you know what you need before you commit to a new contract.

Don't be so sure you need to "buy" more points. There are people eager to get away from the ongoing obligations of ownership. They will happily give you their timeshare contract. Some will even pay for the transfer fee and a years maintenance fees. So take your time and see what is on the forums.
Your best deal will be for a contract at one of the resorts with the lowest maintenance fees, but good management. Over on the Wyndham Owners forum you can find a fee history spread sheet which might be helpful.

Best wishes to you as you go on this journey to expand your ownership. Read the forums and wait to find where someone posts to please take their contract. Then you need to know where the timeshare is, what the history of the resort is and what kind of contract it is. They are not all the same!

Where in texas are you? I in the Houston area these days, and know a lot about Wyndham. I'd have some discussion over coffee if you are in my area.

In April 2012 I got an e-mail from RCI saying if I deposited my 2012 points before April 30, 2012 they would wave $109 combine deposit fee and make new expiration date for my combined deposit April 30, 2014. I went for it!

allowing them to offer the Program.

*********************************************

K. “Deposit Trading Power” is the value derived by
RCI and assigned to: (1) a unit of Vacation Time upon
Deposit of that Vacation Time; or (2) the value derived
when making a Combined Deposit; or (3) the residual
value of a Deposit Credit.

Paco,

I don't know whether you received and responded to something that was really more directed toward general RCI memberships than Wyndham memberships or whether it was simply a targeted promotion to extend the life of all your points currently on deposit with RCI, as you suggest is what they told you. If you had points on deposit and it was worth you to pay to extend the life of all of them, that's great. Were the points that were already in your account points you deposited before or after they instituted the new points grid?

Portions of the message you quoted make me think this was a more generic RCI thing than a Wyndham-RCI specific thing - the part about trading power, for example, does not come into play with today's Wyndham deposits. Wyndham owners have reported receiving emails from RCI about joining RCI Platinum, but there is no way for a Wyndham account to actually upgrade to RCI Platinum as it stands now.

Also, FYI, the normal process now with new deposits of Wyndham points through the portal is that all the points will be placed in your bucket, where they will automatically "combine" or co-mingle with the exception that they will retain their unique expiration dates based on when they were deposited.

Added - Actually, as I look more closely at the information you posted, it looks to me like what you paid was not a combine fee but a 6 month deposit extension fee.
