I had no idea that there is a hard and soft refurbishment program until I found out yesterday at the Desert Springs Villas.

I posted here that all units had been done inside at Phase I but that is only half true. All units in Phase I have been finished for a hard refurbishment only which means that new floor tiles and bathroom tiles have been installed and new cabinets and granite countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms and new bathtubs.

They recently started the soft refurbishment at the DSV-I condos and only building A has been completed so far. Building J will be next and up the row and then the other row.

A soft refurbishment means putting new carpets in and furniture as well as decor, paint and color scheme, etc.

We stayed in a refurbished lock-off unit last year in Phase I and it looked so nice that we thought that everything had been taken care of but the color scheme will be so much nicer this time around. This is what one lady told me. They will try to let me see a new unit in Phase I and II, if they are available. The resort is full and I will take some pictures of the units if there is enough time for it.

In Phase II they are combining the hard and soft refurbishment all at the same time and both phases will not have the same look and color scheme at all.

We always preferred staying in DSV-I because the units are larger and the views far away are beautiful of the snow-capped Mount San Jacinto in the winter when we used to come but the condos in Phase II are very nice too and several seem to have a beautiful view over the golf course, lake and mountains too but not the San Jacinto from where we are. I like both phases now so changed my mind. ;)

We no longer own at this resort but we will keep coming back because we love the desert but May is very warm. The shuttle driver told us that this is normal temperature for this time of the year. I wonder what it will feel like in July, August or September? September seems to be the warmest month on the coast but you never know today.

The hard/soft good refurbishment seems to be the norm at MVCI properties. Cycling every five years between refurbishments. I think during a soft good cycle, they get new paint, carpet, sofa, bedding and other *soft* items. During a hard goods I think they get all the soft goods replaced as well as the *hard* items, appliances, cabinets either replaced or refinished, flooring, tile, etc.

So I think they really do a soft goods every five years since they do it during the soft and hard cycles?

We checked into DSV I this afternoon and were surprised to find a gas stove. I don't recall ever having anything but electric. We are in building G and everything is great. Love this place even in the middle of the summer. We come around four times a year.

This may be true at most resorts but they are doing the hard and soft refurbishments at the DSV-I in two phases instead of one. Only building A is completely refurbished for everything now and they are very nice. This is what I heard more than once.

They are doing hard and soft together in the DSV-II and they have completed building 700, 800 and 900 and condo #655 and 673 in building 600. They are working on another condo now but I didn't write the number down.

They were going to move the check-in area at the front desk to the other side of the clubhouse today but it didn't happen. I could see that the floors are redone and the wall where the fireplace is and the color scheme behind the front desk. They have two windows where you can have a look.

It is a beautiful resort but I love the early mornings or late afternoons when it is less hot. The evenings are chilly even here but that is normal for California.
