Pittsburgh to Vermont

I have been looking at airlines traveling to Vermont and there are so few. Can anyone direct me to Vermont departing from Pittsburgh? The drive is so long and will use that as a last resort.
 
There are few if any direct flights anywhere out of Pgh. Nobody travels around here. Vermont is a long drive. Have you checked Amtrak. We use it for trips to New York City. Alsdo, we have cut the trip in half by staying in a motel overnight. That makes it easier.

Where in Vermont?

Where exactly are you going in VT? Living in southern VT, I fly out of Hartford, CT or Manchester, NH. If you're going to northern VT then Burlington, Plattsburgh, NY or Montreal may work.

Also have you checked Southwest and JetBlue?

Amtrak would be a very long haul from Pittsburgh.
 
We are going to Smugglers Notch Resort in October. I did check Southwest but there are no flights there. I also checked United but the price was so expensive. I will look into Jet Blue and thank you for the suggestion. I think flying into Burlington would be our best bet. What about Boston? How far of a drive would it be from there or Albany, NY? We are in our 70's and I know we could never make 12 hours straight through. If we have to we will just stop over night about half way.

Hi to the Delmont resident, I actually know where that is at. I was from Murrysville.

I would think the best bet if Pittsburgh International Airport is to be used is to go from Pittsburgh to another HUB, same carrier, in the Northeast then transfer to a puddle hopper (most airlines can usally sell you the ticket and handles both legs). Amtrak, last heard, has a Pittsburgh to Philadelphia run. Maybe Amtrack to Philly, then by a puddle hopper up to Vermont if they have one.

If you drive, may I suggest Pittsburgh to Skyline Towers in Atlantic City for your lay-over, then onto Vermont.

P.S. If you do this, use I-80 and not the Turnpike, the Pa. Turnpike tolls are sky high.

Smuggs is 3.5 - 4 hours from Albany. When we go we drive up the NYS Thruway into the Northway and then we take the Essex, NY Ferry across Lake Champlain. That gives you the opportunity to get out of the car if you want for about 20 minutes. (It is cold, however, on the ferry in October.) It takes you into Charlotte/S. Burlington and you have about an hour and a half drive from there.

Smuggs is 3.5-4 hours from Boston. However, if you can connect through New York (LGA?) you should be able to fly to Burlington from there. Burlington is 45min-1 hr from Smuggs. They do offer a shuttle from the airport, but in the fall it is worth having your own car, Stowe is an exciting drive and worth it!
 
Thanks for all the good suggestions. I searched Jet Blue and saw that they leave PIT and go to JFK. From there they go to Burlington. I think that would be our best bet. We can rent a car in Burlington and drive from there. Many thanks for sharing your experiences with me.

Excellent! But - if you see that Jet Blue flies from Pittsburgh to Stewart Airport in Newburgh NY, (nice small airport) that would be good to. I believe Jet Blue flies from Stewart to Burlington.
