Was looking at picking up an SDO timeshare (2BR).

I understand there are Platinum weeks which are 1-17, 51-52, and full year floating weeks (1-52).

Assuming that I would usually need to go on school holidays (i.e., around Christmas or a specific week in late March / early April), how difficult would this be under each type?

Concern is that if I got a 1-52 week floater obviously most people would be trying to reserve the winter/spring weeks and many people are going to be stuck with summer

It is easy, easy, easy to reserve any home week at SDO - provided you plan in advance.

That's right easy especially that many owners use their Sdo for trading rather than using it at the home resort.

It's an easy trade, and remember that everyone doesn't own a 1-52 floater. SDO actually has 4 seasons, including 1-52, and the owners of the other 3 seasons are restricted to reserving their designated season.

In other words - the people who own the summer season are the only ones who are actually stuck with it.

Can you list the four seasons by value?

Platinum wks 1-21 50-51
Gold Plus wks 1-52
Gold wks 22-27 36-49
Silver wks 28-35

FWIW, there still was Xmas 2011 availability in July 2011. I booked a 2 BR L/O becuase my purchase included the 2011 usage. I eventually cancelled the rez and traded both sides in II.

Denise, is week 52 Platinum or a Special Event Week?

I don't believe that SDO has special events weeks. It is listed as Plat on the SO chart.
