Ok, I am a new owner as of 10/21. I purchased a 2 bedroom lock off at the Wstin Kierland for the property located at the Westin Cancun property (Lagunamar) EOY/odd beginning in 2013. We received some decent perks (points, credit of monies paid toward an explorer package ($1500)options to purchase another 480 points etc) and I am comfortable with the monthly investment. However like several others I am rethinking the quality of the deal and the fact I did EOY. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to TUG! :hi:

In a nutshell - you should rescind immediately.

Lagunamar is available for pennies on the dollar on the resale market.

Please read this article about rescinding and then rescind why you still can - http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74493

You can always buy, but if you delay the chance to rescind - it will be gone forever.

Rescind immediately, take your time and research, then buy (resale). You'll likely save many thousands...

and I am comfortable with the monthly investment.

Rescind and buy it for thousands less resale. Also, don't think of it as an "investment".

Please follow the good advice and rescind. Then, read the posts on this Starwood forum for a few months and decide what, if anything, you will buy.

I own 3 weeks at Lagunamar. I am happy vacationing there with the opportunity to trade elsewhere. I own 7 Starwood weeks in all. Lagunamar is a beautiful resort. The ability to buy Starpoints at a discount is nice. But, you need more than that. You need an overall plan for timeshare ownership and use.

I believe you must have first made a decision to become an Elite Starwood owner and have purchased 1 or more Starwood weeks resale (at pennies on the dollar and want to requalify them with Starwood with full, original ownership rights as part of your purchase) BEFORE you consider buying anything from Starwood directly.

First, find out on TUG about how the timeshare systems work. Then buy. Lagunamar is not close to being sold out. And, depending what your final goals might be, there are better buys at Starwood resorts or Marriott resorts, or Hilton resorts, or Disney resorts, etc. ... eom

Some of the mandated rescission periods for Starwood timeshares are:

Harborside Resort at Atlantis- 7 days

Sheraton Broadway Plantation- 5 days
Sheraton Desert Oasis-7 days
Sheraton Mountain Vista-5 days
Sheraton PGA Resort- 10 days
Sheraton Steamboat- 5 days

Vistana Beach Club- 10 days
Vistana Resort- 10 days
Vistana Villages- 10 days

Westin Desert Willow- 7 days
Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas-7 days
Westin Ka’anapali North- 7 days
Westin Kierland Villas- 7 days

Westin Lagunamar- 10 days
Westin Mission Hills- 7 days
Westin Princeville- 7 days
Westin Riverfront Mountain-5 days
Westin St. John- 10 days

Would the recission period be 7 days because he bought while he was at Westin Kierland or 10 days because the property he purchased was Lagunamar? I would think 10 days.

You raise an interesting issue in the area of conflict of laws, but it doesn't matter for purposes of this discussion: advice to OP remains RESCIND NOW!

Take everyone's advise and dedicate today to RESCINDING! If you need help finding a Annual Usage Westin Lagunamar on the Resale Market, let me know, I'd be happy to point you in the right direction.

Update

Thank you fora ll of the advice. I submitted my paperwork earlier this week. Now I wait for response. Thank you again. I am sure you will hear more from my wife and I as we continue our research.
