Do you buy As Seen on TV gadgets??

I saw this posted on another non-timeshare discussion board.

I recently bought a Pocket Chair. Shortly after that, our local TV did a review of it. The reporter nearly fell off. I tried it, and it took 2 of us to set it up, and 2 to unlatch it. Not sturdy, but heavy enough thayt I would not carry it in a pocket or a backpack.

What have you bought?? Did you buy directly from TV or wait for it to appear at your local drug store? What have you returned as non-functional?? I also bought a waterproof aluminum wallet. It keeps water out, but it is not easy to open.

Congrats on your first 1000 posts!

I bought the microfiber-on-a-handle windshield cleaner. Haven't tried it, and I hope it works, 'cause it's a long reach to clean the inside of the windshields of our cars. I figure if worst comes to worst, I can wrap paper towels around the head of the gadget and go for it.

I found it at a local store at twofer$5 instead of $9.99 each on TV. Somehow, I'll order stuff from the internet, but not the TV. Never have.

WalMart has a lot of the TV products. I saw that Swivel Store at WalMart a few days ago and thought of buying it. I may go back and buy it, just to see if it's as cheap as it looks.

I did buy a package of 2 Mister Steamy balls for the dryer. I hope they work. They had those thin aluminum wallets at WalMart, and my stepdad looked at it and said it wasn't as nice as it looks on TV.

On Saturday I saw the infomercial for the Malibu Pilates Chair. It intrigued me since they were advertising a free trial for 30 days only $14.98. Of course I had to look online for the actual cost and it was $400 + S&H. So I looked on Craigslist and found someone selling a brand new one for $80. It's the older version she got suckered into ordering for the free trial period and then didn't return on time. It didn't have the basic DVD with it and I had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to open it. I almost posted a question last night asking if anyone had one and knew how to unfold it. So now I just need to find the 20 minute workout DVD - saw one on ebay but not sure if I will win at a reasonable price. I did DVR the HSN show last night with Susan Lucci and got a few exercises from that to get started, and I do have 2 more advanced DVD's from the seller.

So I do not buy the as seen on tv items - at least not until I see them in a catalog or elsewhere for much less money.

The only one I can think of that I bought was the car windshield cleaner (with a point to reach in the corners). It didn't work very well at all so I've learned to save my money and read lots of reviews before buying anything like it.

I usually don't, but DID get the Swivel Store. (That's the plastic holder for spices, right?)
It was $19.99 for a simple plastic unit. But we had two drawers with spices. I was able to put 20 in the Swivel. Through cleaning both drawers, I found out how many duplicate spices I had, combined them, and now use just one drawer for spices, plus the Swivel.
Since the TV ad was two for that price, I checked online what the postage would have been, since of course you have to pay postage for both! It almost came out double, close to $40, to buy two through the TV, so I was glad I didn't go that route.
So far I like it. Cupboard has stayed very tidy.

The windshield cleaner works great! Just be sure you use water and not any window cleaners.

I have bought the suction cup grab bars to use on vacation. My sister likes and uses hers. I don't really use mine.

I have but purchased them @ BB&B.
I like what Jay Leno said,
" I'll buy two but put them both in the same box."

I agree with that! I also have the windshield cleaner, and it does work quite nicely.

My 7-year-old is a sucker for anything sold on television. She has tried to convince me in the past that I really needed one of those organizer purses that they advertise, because I can't ever seem to find my keys or my cell phone in the wormhole that masquerades as my purse :)

Bed, Bath & Beyond often has a lot of the same items, as bing mentioned, and you don't have to pay shipping. Also, if you don't like it, you can return it without dealing with shipping costs a second time. However, last year we were there and my daughter spotted the "AS SEEN ON TV!" logo on a product called a "Booty Pop," and was trying to get me to buy it. Without going into too much detail, it's a brassiere for your backside. Not only was I not interested in buying it, I wasn't interested in attempting to explain to my child why anyone would purchase such a product

Well the problem with my windshield cleaner must be operator error. It's in my trunk, maybe I will try it again.

We recently bought the Pet Rider car seat covers for the dogs. It seemed bait and switch to me and not an upsell to get the heavy duty ones.

I got a Flow-Bee and love it. I just got it this Spring, and I think it's been off of the TV infomercials for years, but I ordered it online.

I've already more than paid for it with haircut savings, it's fun, and frankly I think I get better haircuts. :) I do need some practice with tapering in the ear and neck area.

DS and DH won't let me use it on them, and DD's hair is too long :(

Don't use too much water with the window cleaner pads or you will have spots all over your windows like I have now. I liked a few sprays of windex on it.

I bnought the Power90 Beach Body workout - it is like PX90 light. I really like the workout. I bought the package that came with the "bands" - I am not crazy about the bands so I use free weights.

I have a purse organizer that I bought at The Container Store - I really like it.

I bought Bare Minerals make up and HATED it. I gave it to my sister who loves it.

My 7 year old does the exact same thing. She'll even pause the tv, and come get us to watch the commercial..It all started with Sham wow for her.

but daddy you also get a..............

Recently graveyard mall had an "As Seen on TV mystery box" for 20.00 bucks & I ordered it. It had:

two of the silicone baking pans. One makes a giant donut & one a cake that looks like an Oreo.

The aluminum wallet

the perfect brownie pan

the robot pot stirrer

the pop can toppers to turn it into a bottle

& 2 ped eggs.

I love the ped eggs - best invention every. I'm still working on trying the rest, but thought it was fun to get all these things I'm always wanting for free.

But my absolute favorite as seen on tv item is the turbie twist, which is a hair towel. I have used them for years & love them.

I did buy the aluminum wallet. I have broken a few nails figuring how to get it open. I put it in the sink and ran water over it, and the one dollar bill I left inside WAS dry.

Mystery Box

Wow, that's a lot of stuff for $20! The brownie pan is supposed to be good - not sure I'd use any of the rest, and I sure don't need brownies - but yummy anyway.

I bought the dog harness which is supposed to be more comfortable than the good lupine ones. Mater loves hers. I can't find it in a large. I tried to order it online and they finally sent me my check back as they couldn't get it and I haven't been able to find it anywhere in large. shaggy

I have 3 of the aluminum wallets and love them. I change purses frequently and some are too small for my long wallet. I put my driver's license, my medical insurance cards and 1 or 2 credit cards in one (red so I can see it) and just transfer that to the purse I am going to use that day. I had a little hard time figuring how to open it but I push it in, then upward. Opens every time.

I love the brownie pan -- all corners -- mmmm!! Also the windshield cleaner .... use it in a bathroom with a really high mirror, use the cloth to clean screens (iPad, phone, etc.).

Bought a chopper ... used it once. The good news was it worked. The bad news was I couldn't figure out how to put it back together after I washed it. :(

Ordered online once .... never again. Ended up with a lifetime supply of Smooth Aways!! $80 for what could be bought at Walgreens for $10! Fooled by the "double" offer page, which doubled the double order!

I've had $20.00 worth of fun playing with the stuff. I knew i would use the brownie pan & the ped eggs, so I figured the rest was a bonus. I can't wait until the next time I need to make brownies so i can try it out.
