Hi

I will be coming to Orlando & Fort Lauderdale for christmas & new year - could you tell me what the weather is typically like that time of year. can you still wear shorts and vest tops during the day? I'm from the uk and I'm sure most of you know the weather is hardly ever great here:(

thanks in advance

It can be all over the place, but here are the stats for December:

Orlando:
High 73F/23C
Low 53F/12C
Mean 63F/17C
Record High 90F/32C (1978)
Record Low 20F/-7C (1983)

Fort Lauderdale:
High 77F/25C
Low 62F/17C
Mean 69F/21C
Record High 89F/32C (1978)
Record Low 30F/-1C (1983)

I'd be prepared for both extremes!

This past xmas, we were in orlando from 12/19- 12/30. The weather was in the low 20s and highs in the 40s on some days. Xmas day, the weather was in the high 70s. We had to go out and get scarfs, thermal underwear, and gloves because were so cold at disney world.

While I've never gone at Xmas, we've spent the last 5 Thanksgivings(3rd week of November) at WDW.

We've had freezing weather(yep I pack the long underwear) to this past year when it was in the low 80's. Plus everything in between.

We also have gone down for MLK weekend(mid Jan), so I have tons of experience packing for so-so weather with a minimal amount of luggage(ie carry-ons).

I check both Accuweather, Weather.com and local tv channel forecasts. I bring things that are easy to layer(ie long underwear) and the guys all have convertable pants.

I'd be prepared for both extremes!

That sums it up nicely. I've been there when it was in the teens, and also in the 70's. There's no way to avoid the extremes.

When I go at Xmas, I have the clothes from the north and the hopeful clothes for warm weather of the south. South Florida (Ft Lauderdale) is still warmer than Orlando and warmer than above the Mason-Dixon line.

All else fails, I make the rounds of the local Florida bars.

We were in Orlando for Christmas two years ago, and although it was pleasant (50's & 60's and sunny) most days, it got pretty cold at night - so for fireworks, we ended up buying stocking hats! We also hadn't packed heavier coats, so were very bundled up in layers. However that same trip, we were able to get into the outdoor pool one day when the temp reached 70.

Pack hats and a warm coat, and then you'll be covered, regardless!

I'm used to coming to Florida with such a light suitcase with just summer shorts and vest tops - how annoying to know I'm gonna have to pack jeans and jumpers and lug that all the way from the UK. Mmmmmm maybe some cheap shopping will have to be the order of the day :D Ah well never mind, I know for sure it will be better than where I live.....

It is always great to be in the sunshine state in December. We do FL vacations every other year and we have been bless with temps always in the sixty's and above.

I've worn everything from shorts to longjohns at Christmas time in Orlando. Bring a variety.

One year the nearest Walmart was inundated with tourists buying hats, gloves, coats etc.
