I would like to report an incident at Grand Chateau because I think it’s something very imported to keep it in mind for those traveling to this particular resort.

Grand Chateau has only one entrance, only one door. Parking is free, but valet, so you have to leave your car at the entrance and wait no more than 5 minutes to pick it up (not a big deal). The problem is that during morning hours, when lots of guests are checking out, there is not enough room to park all the cars in front of the resort, and it will be really crowded, and things can be a little bit confusing.

So, I checked out Jan 1st, 4 adults, 2kids, 2 cars, 1 stroller and 11 bags, all of them under my supervision. The worst happened: I forgot one of the carry ones, not a regular carry on full of toys or clothes, my carry on with all the passports, my computer, vouchers, and so on. And I did it all by myself, no one to blame but me.

Thanks god I discovered I was one bag left about 1 hour late and still in Las Vegas and not Palm Desert. I returned to the resort, checked with the valet and front desk people and nothing. I almost panicked. I talked to a very nice lady at the front desk (unfortunately I can’t remember her name). She was very helpful; she called security to check what happened. I tried to be calm, but every minute I was there waiting looked like an hour. Then, she disappeared from the front desk, but returned moments later with an update: after checking out, I went to the parking lot, put the stroller in the trunk of the van and left my carry on behind; it stayed there for half an hour, a limo stopped near the bag and the driver loaded the limo with lots of bags including my carry on. So security identified the limo, the valet people recognized the driver and they had the driver’s cell phone number on file, he was called and told that yes, he discovered after delivering the other bags that he had an extra one, kindly dropping my bag back at the Grand Chateau.

So I would like to congratulate everybody at Grand Chateau, they were always very nice and helpful, and showed that security works there. We always complain about bad experiences, but I think it would be nice to stop and write about how great staff members can be trying to help you.
Second, I would like to warn everybody traveling to Grand Chateau to be extremely careful with the bags because things can be messy at the entrance. I am extremely careful, always, never had anything (or anyone) left behind, but it can happen to anyone. So be extra carefully there.

PS: later on I had I talk with my carry on, if it wanted a limo ride, it could have asked me, I would do it for it, no need to run away! :hysterical:

It's nice this had a Happy ending! But one thing you did bring up was the crowded conditions during check in, and check out days (which I assume are Thur, Fri, Sat, and Sun). I can see with the Destination Club the advantages of checking in or checking out on a Mon, Tues, & Wed in order to avoid the crowds.....

Good to hear! I just booked today 4 nights mid-March with check-in on Tuesday. So, I made the right decision on the place and the day!

As it will be my first time at Grand Chateau, what floor or building do you recommend me to request? Also, what would you recommend on site (at the Marriott itself): I go with kids and the idea (of course) is not to spend time outside in general.

Thanks for your help

Strip view and high floor, the view is spectacular. Maze is fine and and pool is good if the weather is fine. But the spa is ridiculous, too small.

But go for a ride, Grand Chateau is just a block away from the new city center, and about 2 blocks from Bellagio, where the kids will be delighted with the fountain show.

The Harley Davidson Cafe could entertain them, lots of bikes to take pictures with. A 15 min walk south on Las Vegas Blvd you will find The Coca Cola and M&M's stores.

PS: I was at the 29th floor, south tower facing the strip, and the synchronized fireworks at Aria and Planet Hollywood were unbelivable, could be any better.

Thanks. I am not planning to rent a car, as Grand Chateau is so close to the action. Would you recommend?

We rented a car but only because we went to Hoover Dam. Highly recommend visiting it. Otherwise you can pretty much walk everywhere.

For a four night stay mid-week you won't need a car. MGC is close to the airport. However, if you want to go to Hoover Dam, Mt Charleston or go to places like the South Point and M hotels and casinos you'll need a car. There's plenty to do on the Strip but for a family you might not want to spend all of your time there.

I recommend that, too. The Mike O'Callaghan & Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge is now open and you can walk through the bridge and have a spectacular view of the Dam. It worth it, specially for the kids.

I'm glad to hear that the new bridge has finally been opened after about 7 years of construction.

Now that the new bridge is opened, has the crossing over the dam been permanently closed, or can you still cross that way also?

You can still cross over the dam and park in Arizona. After that, the road is closed.
