Anybody know of a good agent at Stroman? I talked to a pussy cat but I'm looking for a tiger:wall:

Stroman has received many negative posts on this forum, some of which I have saved, since re-posting previous posts is not allowed on this forum.

My wife and I had a horrible experience with Stroman, and others have posted similar or worse.

Just say "No"

Avoid them at all costs! They are not very reputable in the timeshare resale market. I believe they are one of those firms that want their fees up front to list and market your timeshare. I don't know of anyone who has had a positive experience with them.

I brought from STroman. I am happy with the services. They allow you to choose closing company.

As in the past, regardless of how many people post that they got screwed by them, someone will pop up and say they are pleased as punch. The same as this thread.

So, most of those who warned against them just don't any more. That is sad, a disservice to the consumer, IMO.

I don't know of anyone who has had a positive experience with them.

The cost can be there

Actually, it does not cost anything to avoid them. :D

But it is likely to cost you plenty if you list with them!

Buying through them - possibly OK. Selling through them - no way as long as they want up front fees.

Good Experience with Buying

I recently bought a great summer week through them and am still keeping in touch on other possibilities. I was also allowed to choose my closing company and everything went smoothly in a timely fashion, and good communication. I have no complaints whatsoever from a buyer's standpoint...Ask for Jodi.

A number of long-time respected TUGgers have had positive experiences in purchasing through Stroman, as shown by example in this past thread. However, there are also many who have had poor buying experiences.

No one, as far as I can recall, has reported positively on selling through Stroman.

Thus, it's for good reason that Stroman is not included in the list (located at the top of the list of topics for this forum) of resellers to consider using.

I have bought from Stroman in the past and been completely satisfied. I have another purchase currenty in process and am happy with all-in cost, responsiveness, closing updates, etc. Due to my concern that usage week would arrive before closing completed, Stroman (at my request) got letter from Seller authorizing me to use Week and made sure Resort got it. Dealing with Linda McCarthy.

We got screwed as buyers, as did the sellers in our case. But you are right in that they got screwed more than we got screwed. ;)

That's Linda McCartney you're thinking of, JLB. Presumably she's not doing timeshare sales from beyond the grave...but one never knows!

I had never bothered to pay attention to whether it was buyers or sellers getting screwed, as it goes against the reputation of the company either way.

So I looked at the posts I have saved and it is funny how memory plays tricks on you.

Of the posts I have saved, 14 were buyers and only 1 was a seller. There were a few that just warned in general without saying how it was they got screwed.

The buyers got screwed by things like closing company problems, disappearing earnest money (our case), undisclosed unpaid fees, and stuff like that. So this is about a lot more than upfront fees, the common misperception.

The posts I have saved are from a Who's Who of TUG, past and present. I know of others who do not want it mentioned (for whatever reason) that they have posted warnings.

I used Linda also on a purchase. She is experienced & nice to work with. I wouldn't list with them......

If you want a Tiger, just ask!

Hello Lenora,

If you want a Tiger just ask as I know from personal experience they have a few of them:D

I have nothing bad to say about them.

AKGOLFER

Just make sure you ask detailed questions about what they are offerring. For example I wanted an OS view. The salesperson from Stroman called me with a great price on an Oceanfront unit. Too good to be true...and it was. Although she said she was in the business for 15 years, somehow she didn't know the difference between an Oceanfront resort and an OF unit.

There is a resale company just up the road from us. The MO AG slapped them around and they paid fines for upfront fee violations. They just rebranded and get on truckin'.

Stroman rebranded too not long ago.

Looks like we'll have to wait for another generation of victims.

It's a shame we are not allowed to learn from our ancestors. :(

I'll be going now, being the only one left (it appears) to try to pass history on.

If each of our resorts, and the big companies in the timeshare industry, would all have resale programs for their owners, companies like this would go away, and threads like this would not re-occur every now and then.

It could be done if they wanted to.

Jim -

The implication that Stroman rebranded to avoid government action or as the result of some governmental action has no factual basis.

In early 2003, Stroman entered the world of timeshare exchanges in an effort to compete directly with RCI and II. In that connection, the "ERA" in "ERA Stroman" was changed to "Rii". The "Rii" portion of Stroman's new name stands for "Resort Interval Interchange" and was made a part of the company's name in an effort to give the new venture instant credibility and identity.

Strohman investigated

I filed with the Texas real estate and attorney general and responded several times We were buyers and did not get the summer S Cal week we were promised but ended up getting an off season week. The sellers were also cheated as they gave Strohman the full correct information. The sales agent was innocent but the company was NOT. There was going to be a court hearing but the sales agent 's health was poor and she passed away. They made Strohman make several change,One was the escrow company who was in the same building gives no chance of a fair impartial closing.
We ended up with an off season week that has still managed to trade well so although not what we were promised it has been a good trader and we have traded for in season Marriott's and Westin's

Positive Stroman experiences --- am I just a statistical anomaly?

I know and readily acknowledge that Stroman as a company (and Wayne Stroman as an individual) both have something of a ....er....ahem...."mixed reputation" and have spent a fair amount of time defending themselves in court.

That said, in recent years past I have purchased two separate, completely unrelated timeshare weeks with the able assistance of a competent and pleasant Stroman agent in Texas. In point of fact, these two weeks (both were bargains, relatively speaking) have turned out to be my two favorite weeks among a half dozen others owned (...no other resale purchases of mine ever involved or included Stroman in any way).

In both instances, I used (and paid) a third party closing company of my own selection --- not the "fox in the henhouse" closing entity conveniently housed at the exact same address as Stroman. Personally, I would never proceed with any timeshare purchase unless I had the option to select and use an objective, third party closing entity of my own choice. Maybe employing this detail ultimately made all the difference in my being a happy camper / buyer, I dunno...

P.S. I won't break the TUG rules by posting anything resembling an "ad" here, but if anyone wants a personal recommendation for a good, honest and capable agent at Stroman, send me a PM and I'll gladly and readily identify the Stroman agent with whom I'm "batting 2 for 2", and I will provide her contact info on request....
