On average, how long has it taken for your II request to be confirmed?

Just wondering how long it's taken for your II exchanges to be confirmed. For the first time since owning, I have requests in and so far, nothing. Just curious if I should be worried with all the DC changes...

Serina,

Can you describe what your trade request is? I've got a trade request in offering a Studio in Maui Ocean Club, looking for a Studio in Aruba Ocean Club in early February 2012.

I'm only now just entering the "trade period" since the 13-month reservation period just opened up on January 3rd. So my delay is not yet noticeable, but still interesting considering the factors (my studio is a summer week, ocean-front, so pretty powerful).

Please let us know what you're looking to do and when -- thanks!

Trade time

I put my requests in about 14 to 16 months in advance and in most cases get my exchange filled in the 11 to 12 month range.
I like to have a week in the II bank just to play with so that I can be in the front of the request line at II.

I too have a "powerful trader". Two years ago, my II request was confirmed w/in 3 months. In Jan 2010, I put in a "request first" w/ II & 8 months later, still had not been confirmed. So, I cancelled my request & rented the week I was looking for from another Marriott Owner on Redweek. So, here I am owning 2 Marriott weeks, paying almost $3,000 annually in MF's & going out & renting ($4,000) from somebody else. This is starting to not make sense to me. I did rent out one of my weeks but for a lot less than $4,000!

Smooth Air

GregT: My trade request is: (1.) Canyon Villas-Platinum requesting trade for either July 2011 Newport Coast OR Dec. 2011 Hyatt Coconut Plantation. (2) Newport Coast Gold requesting trade for either July 2011 at 4 Seasons Aviara or March 2012 at 4 Season Aviara.

Thoughts anyone??

JBRES1: That's a good idea to keep a week banked in II so that you can play and view. I'm not able to do that as I deposited my weeks with II. What type of week do you keep banked and not use?

we do the early banking and request with a Westgate Christmas week and go from never-happen trade to uptrade request when we get close to 13 months. Westgage offered a discount for early MF fee payment this year, so it was even better.

Where did you go for 1 week that you paid $4,000 for the week ?

A few years back I rented a week on Redweek and deposited my Platinum Ocean Pointe week with II. So I have been playing with II for some exchanges far in advance of the check in date. I now have an Ocean Pointe summer week in II for playing with for teh next 2 years.

I don't know anything about your Hyatt request, but July Newport Coast is very tough to get. July & August are extremely popular there and even NCV owners have a hard time getting those weeks. I think a large percentage of NCV owners use those weeks or rent them for $$.

I mostly see Four Seasons Aviara in the off season; Nov, Dec, Jan. It is very rare to see a summer deposit with II. I did get a week there once in early March, but I would imagine that spring break weeks are tough. I think Four Seasons picks the weeks to deposit and they rarely deposit anything during summer or school holidays.

I did a request first for all the Hawaii resorts trading a 1BR Grande Vista summer week and got a 1BR Ko' Olina July week within 3 weeks. My range of dates was the last week in June and all of July.

I don't think the average has any meaning, because it completely depends on what you are asking for. If you want a 1 bdm. in Florida during the off-season, the average wait is 5 min. If you want a 3 bedroom at Harborside Atlantis for New Years week, the average is never, because you won't get it.

I've done the lions share of our exchanges online as instant exchanges. Of those that I've requested, probably 80 to 90% have been confirmed within a couple of weeks. A couple I can think of took more than 1 month and, the March Newport Coast exchange we wanted took nearly 6 months. We had one request into one of the Hyatt's in Key West that I cancelled after nearly 6 months when I found another exchange that we wanted doing an online search.

Since 1998, that Key West request is the only exchange we haven't recieved. Considering we've probably averaged 3 or 4 exchanges per year since 2002 or 2003, I think we've done pretty well.

As to how the new Marriott DC program is affecting exchanges. I really don't think we'll have a clear picture on that until this time next year and maybe no even then. Any request that's not filled quickly will be looked upon with suspision when there are so many other issue that could be affecting inventory. Inventory could be lacking due to units going through lenghty foreclosure processes or individual cutting back on expenses and going to their home resorts vs exchanging.

As an example, we've exchanged one of our weeks every year we've owned it except for one. It's not a Marriott week but, the DC will affect how we use that week. I can't see keeping the I.I. personal account and paying $89/year plus $139 to exchange, just for that one week which has a MF's of less than $300. So, that non-Marriott week will start to get used for personal use or, we'll get rid of it (I plan on keeping it for now). That inventory will no longer be available for exchange.

While it's the DC that will affect the inventory of a non-Marriott week, that situation illustrates how outside influences can affect exchange inventory. There have been many changes thoughout the timeshare industry since the economy collapsed and I tend to believe it's a combination of those that is creating the shift we're seeing more so than just the DC, although the DC certainly will create a shift. It's a smaller reason of why we decided to join.

This is what I've done for the last several years and have also received my exchanges at the 12 - 13 month window except for this year, I'm still waiting for my exchange to come through for this summer and I've had my request in since fall of 2009. I'm trying for Myrtle Beach or HHI exchanging my 2-bedroom platinum Manor Club week. I've gotten this same exchange the last several years, this summer nothing yet, I'm still waiting.

II Trade

Decided at somewhat last minute to put in a request first for MOC in FEB.
Put the request in Nov 1st using a 2bdrm CV unit we had booked in March. We We were willing to trade for a 1bdrm unit since only 2 of us are traveling. We received confirm Dec 30th for 1bdrm GV at MOC. for 3rd week in FEB. It seems if you have a high demand week that II needs you can get a request if you are willing to wait for it. It makes the airline booking a little tricky!:)

4 weeks in Hawaii

We have made the following trades.(we own 2 weeks/2bedroom lock off at Grande Vista)our two trades were made with our 1 bedroom lock offs.:whoopie: we will be in Hawaii for most of July.
We put in for two weeks in Hawaii any resort at least one bedroom for a July check in date with II. We joined the new points plan on the first day of the program in June. We had one week confirmed for Ko Olina the first day of our request. We wanted to go to a different resort so we took Ko Olina off our list for the second week. Last week we got tired of waiting and agreed to stay at Ko Olina for the second week. Two days later we were confirmed with a Ocean View at Ko Olina. I then called to see if anything was open in Maui. We were able to use one of our 2012 weeks and confirm five days in Maui Ocean club and five days at Newport during Spring Break in the new points system. Our last week was made on the Big Island with RCI and another week besides Marriott. We gave up a two bedroom look off at Grande Vista and now have 10 days in exchange and no four different exchange fees. We are really happy with the new program and plan to utilize the program to the end.

That's a good example of how you can be very successful going places in their non-peak periods. Both II and the new Club reward you for that.

OK...so it seems II is most effective if you can travel at non-peak or not school break times and if you put your request in about a year ahead...

Keep in mind that you can still play and view with weeks that have a pending request. Until that request is filled, you're able to use it to view whatever's online. If you find something you like, you can confirm it right then (obviously your pending request would then, but only then, be extinguished).

My exchanges have always come through (although for Hawaii it was weeks before our trip as opposed to months). Anyway, to take the worry out of whether or not our exchange will come through we normally...okay, we always...have a hotel (or other accommodations) week booked for the same time period. This way we continue on w/our flights, car rental, other plans etc.

FWIW,

Thanks so much! I didn't know you could still search with a request in...I thought understanding TSing was complicated; trading is even more so!
