I got my WKORV all sorted late in December and so I transferred the 2010 1bd ocean view over to II (thanks To tug on that). I have an EOY so my plan was to just trade back into WKORV for late next year in early December or maybe early Jan 2012.

Looking in II I can see units for May and June. I was wondering if SVO has a regular cycle of releasing units X months out or is it somewhat random?

Also I noticed that my 1bd could trade for a 2bd on occasion. Is it better to do manual searches for units to try and get a 2bd or just do an ongoing search?

And finally how do the views gets assigned? Should I just assume Island View?

Yes, there is a semi-schedule release of units. In the past, I recall bulk deposits for the Sept-Oct period, Jan and May-early June periods.

Since you a Tug Member, go to the sightings board and do a search. You;ll see the pattern of deposits.

You have to do a manual search to get the 1 bdrm for 2 bdrm trade. The auto trade I don't think will allow you to trade up in unit size. I used my small WKV one bdrm to snag a two bdrm at WKORV two years ago.

If you are trading through II expect to get an island view, since you will be last on the view pecking order. I would still call and request a view, building and floor for any trade.

An II ongoing search is like for like so your 1bd will only pull a 1bd.

What do you mean by this? Can you explain?

If you're an owner who books in the owners' window of 8-12 months in advance, you're guaranteed your view (Ocean Front, Ocean View, Island View), based on availablity (i.e., if your view is sold out, you'd be told in advance and asked to pick a different date). If you exchange in, using either StarOptions or II, you're not guaranteed any view whatsoever. Starwood uses a "pecking order" to assign the views, and II exchangers are the lowest on the totem pool.

Some timeshares handle this differently (e.g., if a Marriott owner deposits an Ocean View, and you trade in through II, your confirmation will be coded for Ocean View). With Starwood II exchanges, it's best to expect the worst possible view -- anything better should be considered a bonus!

Phase One (WKORV) has one building with notoriously bad parking lot views -- it's generally expected that II exchangers will end up in this building, especially during times of high occupancy. Phase Two (WKORVN) doesn't have parking lot views. There are other differences as well -- e.g., WKORVN only has combination microwave/convection ovens -- I hate those things, but I think I would place more importance on the view and exchange into WKORVN to avoid the parking lot view. Others may feel differently!

We did a Starwood to Starwood trade in October and got an ocean view room in WKOVRN.

May, Sept, Oct & Nov are low season in Hawaii. Maybe this explains the great view.

what is realy bad about those combination microwave/convection ovens is that they placed too high for shorter people of whose populace is mainly women (e.g. my lovely wife) and forces taller people (mainly men) to have to get off their butts and do something... (me)

Lol! I can deal with the one at Harborside -- it allows you to set a temperature and time (if you google for instructions, it will basically tell you to use 325 when a recipe calls for 350 ... I forget if there's a timing difference too ... but, bottom line, it's "workable"). But, the one at WSJ-BV has no ability to set a temperature. You have to select a food ... which is fine if your food is on the darn menu! I believe you and your lovely wife were the victims of one of our convection oven disasters in June!

Note to self before grocery shopping next trip -- only buy food that is listed on the convection oven menu! Luckily, I don't have to deal with the oven again until 2012 ... 2011 is pool villa year -- woohoo!

I think I'll run for the board under the platform of replacing all convection ovens. I'll get all the female votes -- especially the short female votes! :)

Bite your tongue, woman.

"Honey, I can't figure out this stupid convection oven. We'll have to go out for dinner again."
