How can I buy spacebanked weeks?

 Please excuse this if I'm breaking any rules, I haven't posted very much on TUG and couldn't figure out how to ask the question any other way.
Using the new RCI system with the visible trading powers, I see that I am about 25-30 trading power things (points, lite points, credits...) away from being able to book all our family trades for both 2011 and 2012. I am willing to pay to have close-to-expiring spacebanked weeks transferred into my RCI account, plus pay for the transfer. The RCI rep told me that it's pretty straightforward and even showed me where to download the form.
My question is: Can I post this type of request on TUG, and if so, where and how??

I am not sure what you are referring to, because in the past RCI has not permitted exchanges to be rented. IF it's allowed, the TUG Marketplace is the only place you could post it. Advertising is not permitted in the discussion forums.

This is not the renting of exchanges. It is the buying of TPUs, which RCI is saying is no differnt (right now) than someone buying a whole deposited week, which is within their rules. And yes, I did call RCI and ask this question specifically.

Obviously it's up to the Mods and Whomever to decided whether to allow postings of TPUs for sale or wanted and any rules to be followed. But as for RCI, they are ok with it.

Great Question!

How do I transfer my RCI Weeks membership or deposited week?

An RCI membership is a separate legal asset from the timeshare itself. In order to modify or transfer account information, we need appropriate documentation. Please send us a completed Membership Transfer Application (MTA) signed by you and anyone else listed on the account as Seller/Grantor.
It would be helpful to also have the signatures of the new owners in the Purchaser/Grantee section.

This form can be downloaded from our website.
Just click on the following link: Transfer Form

http://www.rci.com/CDA/Common/Documents/RCI_Wks_Mem_trans_agrmt_1.pdf

Please include the $79 USD/$98 CD MTA processing fee by check, money order, or credit card if you will be transferring any SPACEBANK deposits or remaining membership fees.
If the new owner is not currently an RCI member, please also provide payment for his/her membership fees.
If using a credit card, please provide your account number, expiration date, and name as it appears on the card.
You may send information to us at RCI, attn: Customer Service,PO Box 80229, Indianapolis IN 46209-8097 or fax it to 317/805-9335.

To use the MTA form for only transferring a SPACEBANK deposit
from your account to another member, please follow these steps:

1. A member transferring a SPACEBANK deposit to another member will complete the first section titled "Seller(s) / Grantor(s)". Please be sure to include your RCI ID #.
2. The RCI member receiving the SPACEBANK deposit will complete section 2 as "Purchaser(s) / Grantee(s)". Please be sure to include the RCI ID #.
3. Please mark through Section 3.
4. Under Section 4 "Pending Activity", select Option 4 "As the sellers, we wish to transfer the following SPACEBANK deposit(s), exchange request(s), or confirmations". Then list the specific unit/interval/year you wish to transfer.
5. In section 5, select option 2 - "As the sellers, we own additional timeshare property.... Therefore, we wish to retain our RCI subscribing membership.
Please include the $79 USD/$98 CD MTA processing fee by check, money order, or credit card. If using a credit card, please provide your account number, expiration date, and name as it appears on the card.
6. We will need both signatures from the Grantor (the member transferring a deposit) and the Grantee (the member receiving the deposit).

Q:
How much is someone willing to sell their week/tpv for
How much is someone willing to pay (price per point)
When will the exchange company start selling extra TPV points

It used to be against RCI Policy to sell spacebanked weeks. Every couple of years, they would crack down on the policy and the local providers would stop.

If RCI is indeed allowing it again, then it is clearly a change in policy from a few years back.

Hi Denise, thanks for answering so quickly. As the other posters said, I am looking to buy TPUs to fill in my family's plans. I am certainly willing to pay for an ad in the marketplace, but not sure exactly what section to put it in so that folks with close-to-expiring deposited weeks will see it.

For several years I bought deposited South Africa weeks, which worked well until RCI stopped allowing it. The rep I spoke with yesterday didn't know anything about that, but her guess was that it was because it was a commercial activity. Her opinion on this type of transaction was that there wasn't any problem with it.

TUG members get 25 free Ads in the Marketplace per year. You would place your ad in the "Buy" section, under "Points."

My guess is that TPUs will be handled in the same way. RCI makes money when people transfer these weeks. So, they really don't care if people sell them. I think they crack down when other owners turn them in or when someone becomes successful selling the weeks and takes profits of some type.

One of my resorts allows owners to pay an additional maintence fee and can have use of an addional hoa owned week either for use or deposit. You may try checking with your resort

If I had expiring weeks that I wanted to recover something from, I don’t think I’d look in Buy Wish Ads / Points since I would think that Points meant RCI points, not RCI weeks.

I think that TPUs would be an excellent category to add to Buy Wish ads. Even with Tuggers, I’m sure that there are times when folks lose weeks. This would give Tuggers a chance to recoup something for their week, rather than forfeiting to RCI.

I agree. Do any other members have an opinion or suggestion as to whether this might provide a useful marketplace?

I also agree. This sounds like a good idea to me, assuming RCI doesn't institute a policy forbidding it.
