Hi.

I'm planning on taking the family to Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Bay (Arkansas) this summer, IF it has a beach. The Wyndham website lists a beach as an amenity, but I can't find any reviews that mention a beach.

Could anyone that has actually stayed there please comment on whether it has a beach, and if so what the beach is like (probably going in August 2013)?

Any other comments re staying there are also greatly appreciated (family is me, my wife, and two boys, ages 5 and 9).

Thanks in advance, Tuggers!

Dave

the beach Wyndham must be speaking of is most likely at Greers lake nearby.
there is swimming in the area and you can take the ferry over to the mountain and take the trail around...(or swim there too).

Horseback riding is available across the street from the resort entrance. The fitness center is also nice. Fairfield Bay is its own community.(post office, gas station, etc)

We used our stay here to also venture around the area. We went to Little Rock and stomped around the town a bit and also spent time at the Clinton Library. From there we booked a one night accomodations and headed up to Memphis and stayed on Beale Street and enjoyed the local musicians and food.
After checkout in the am we headed to Graceland and then made our way back to Arkansas Bay.

I think your family will enjoy your stay there and the accomodations were very nice.

Thanks for the response!

I appreciate the info. I researched Greer's Ferry Lake based on your response, and yes, you are correct, it has beaches (hard to find in the midwest, some nice beaches in MI)!

Hey, we too did LR, Graceland, & Beale while at Fairfield Bay! (Branson, too.)

I have a soft spot for this unique place that no one else seems to go to!

Before our trip I found it difficult finding info on the internet about this specific resort and area. If you have any questions that aren't being answered here, I would call the resort directly. They are very nice there!

We did find a little beach in one spot, but it wasn't the pop-open-the-umbrella-and-blankets kind, so I can't answer your question.

I will recommend---especially if driving in the dark---getting very specific directions from resort staff before getting to the area, where cell service is spotty. Be prepared for boonies (and roller-coaster-like roads.) But once you find it, it's really a unique and beautiful area and neighborhood. Keep the resort map handy!

The outdoor pool area has a nice hot tub with a little waterfall, and a pretty incredible view of the Ozarks.

Have fun!!

This helped me a lot! My husband and I LOVE that kind of place, and we have been to a few!

We went after Labor Day so it may be more crowded when you go. The day trips (Memphis, etc.) are about 2-3 hrs away so that may not work for you. If you do go to Branson it's an awesome place for kids and adults. Beware "Visitor Centers" which are time-share pitch places in disguise. You can get good coupons there, though.

Since the area felt foreign to us, we got a lot questions answered from the main check-in office. There is a lot to do around there that we didn't have time for (state parks, caverns, etc.)

Also, before going I checked the websites and had info mailed from the official Arkansas and GF Lake Visitor Associations. Very helpful. May not be your thing but I'm a sucker for a good brochure::cheer:

Right side has place to request brochures, etc.

Left side is a "vacation kit" to send away for:

Historical tidbit: the Greer's Ferry Lake dedication was the last major public appearence of JFK before the fateful trip to Dallas. Another favorite tidbit is that some of the boatramps you see are actually roads to the previous town. There is an old town underneath that lake!
