Quick question for all you knowledgable Wyndham owners.

Do resale owners have the ability to "PIC" other weeks for Wyndham points or is that benefit only eligible for developer purchases?

Thanks in advance,
KT

Hi KTaylor:

I was at an "owner's update" last month, and I discussed the PIC program with the sales rep. I was specifically told that I could not use my existing resale Wyndham points for the PIC. Instead, I would have to buy 154,000 retail points from Wyndham (for approximately $20,000), and then buy a 2 bedroom fixed week resale that qualified for PIC. That would get me VIP status in Wyndham. My next question was whether my existing resale Wyndham points would then be considered VIP like the rest of my new retail Wyndham points. The sales rep replied "probably not."

My sense is that if anyone desperately wants VIP status, PIC is a smart and cheaper way to do it. But I seriously doubt that I ever will take this course for three reasons. One, most (but not all) people seem to agree that VIP benefits aren't worth the extra cost, even when the smart buyer takes advantage of the PIC program. Two, because VIP and PIC can be changed by Wyndham at any time, a buyer is taking a huge risk. And finally, I'm very happy with the cheap resale Wyndham points that I purchased on ebay. Sure, my MF's are probably somewhat higher than a retail purchasers. But since I paid 95% less for my purchase price, I can live with this.

Not true. Your resale MF's are exactly the same as if you bought developer points.

There can be advantages from a Developer purchase but a change in MF's is not one. There is little need to buy Developer points for almost all.

At this point in time you must make a developer purchase in order to place and additional property in PIC. My understand as of our last update three weeks ago is that when you set up your PIC it was a contractual agreement which cannot be rescinded.

Hi bhodgson:

Let's assume for the moment that the salesperson told you the truth in represesnting that the PIC program is contractual and cannot be changed. A Wyndham retail buyer would still be taking a significant risk in relying upon this representation because while the PIC program might be contractual, the underlying VIP program is not. The terms and conditions of the VIP program can still be altered or diminished by Wyndham in the future. So just my opinion, but the wise "buyer should beware."

and how do you get them

When you go to a Wyndham sale pitch, and told them although it is a lovely program, but you have another RCI fix/or floating week timeshare and can not return it. They will offer you a chance to PIC that week with some developer purchase as a way to save you from the "unworthy or very inflexible" timeshare week evil to the "advance" Wyndham point world. That is how you can get them.:D
