We are going to Hawaii in August. I will be participating in a race on Sat and Sunday on OAHU ISLAND, KANE‘OHE HI. I plan on getting 4 nights on Oahu at Waikiki Beach Walk and then planning on going to another island for 3 or 4 more nights. I am looking for suggestions on where to go. We would like some beach, but don't have to be right on it, but would also like to snorkel, see volcanos, etc. Thanks.

The only island with an active volcano is the Big Island of Hawaii.

That being said, personally, I would not go to the Big Island until they get the Dengue Fever outbreak under control.

If you don't care if the volcano is active or not, I think Haleakala on Maui is fabulous:

Since you only have one week, I'd probably stay on Oahu the whole time. When you change islands, the shuffling around and relocating wastes most of a day. Not worth is for a short trip. Oahu has PLENTY to keep you busy for a week or so.
