I want to do some investigation of changes in status and privileges that occur when a former Diamond Club member adds HGVMax. We've done that, and I'm now seeing some disconcerting changes in status and privilege in our account. I want to try to understand whether the changes that we are seeing have occurred generally as a result of Hilton acquiring Diamond, or if any of the changes we are seeing were specifically triggered by adding HGVMax to our ownership.

My goal is to create a thread, with documentation, regarding changes in status and privileges that occur when adding HGVMax to an account. To do that, I would like to compare what our current situation is with HGVMax added to our account with the perks and privileges available to a (nee Diamond) gold member who has not added HGVMax. This will involve doing some coordinated evaluations of on-line options.

We refuse to add MAX. We see no advantage to do so. It is our understanding that by entering a "New" Contract all or most all of the privileges you enjoy with the Legacy DRI Contract are lost. Such as Club Select Club Combination, Platinum Status as a result of adding the possible DRI Points from Club Select Club Combination to your actual DRI Points even if you do not use Club Select Club Combination, etc.

From my reading of both documents your status level in The Club + MAX is determined by the actual number of Points you own. There is no add on from Club Select/Club Combination as in The Club.

In an "owners update" we were in yesterday, their basic pitch was for us to add more HGVMax points to reach "Premier" status (38,000 points). Our 6500 Club Combo points were included in determining both our current and proposed HGVMax status.

Hi we are at the Poipu report in Kauai right now. We are gold members of Diamonds resorts, purchased in 1999. I am a new user with TUGS. We just had had interesting conversation with the sales office yesterday.

I'm sure they are pushing HGVMax. Be aware that if you do that, they will try to switch your existing points to from the HGV Club (which is the old Diamond Club) to their new HGVMax Club. At that point, your Gold Membership will be erased. In HGV Max you would need 38,000 points to reach a somewhat equivalent (but still inferior) set of privileges.

We have 21,000 deeded at Maui, 5,000 Cabo Azul, 4,000 US Collection. They are offering to combine Cabo and US Collection for $9,000 to join HGV Max. However at 6 months out not sure of availability at popular resorts. Maintenance fee would be reduced from 3 contracts to 2.

To begin, I want to thank you for starting this thread and researching HGV Max. I'm not new to TUG but this is my first posting. My circumstance is similar to yours: While traveling a few weeks ago, I attended a sales pitch and put down a deposit for joining HGV Max. I have yet to sign any docs because I was on the road. My family owns 44,000 points in the HI collection with KBC on Maui the home resort. The primary motivation for joining HGV Max is to gain access to HGV properties--like Ocean Tower on the big island of Hawaii. Diamond kept promising a resort on the big island but never delivered. What I am worried about is the six month maximum booking window when booking via HGV Max for any HGV property. Is the limit always six months regardless of the number of points owned? If so, availability for the last two weeks of December or early January is probably unlikely. Another question: After joining HGV Max, does the $39 per night loyalty accommodation upgrade fee apply to all bookings or just those for HGV stays? Right now, the fee via the Diamond portal is only $20 per night.

I was told that the 6 months is for hilton properties, 13 months for home resort and 10 months for all diamond properties within max. They said the loyalty upgrades, like room choice etc... was based on your contract. I think that is one of the benefits you will lose. Also, you pay to save points to the next year.
