This is my first post. We have just started to look at timeshares. We think we will buy Disney in the spring but I also want to look at some of my options. We have been to a few Worldmark locations and love them. If we wanted to buy a resale worldmark timeshare where would we do this? And what would I be looking at price wise? We are VERY NEW at all this. Thanks

PS Is there anyway you can exchange your worldmark points for a DVC unit? Am wondering if we should just buy Worldmark and exchenge for the few Disney trips we would take. As you can see I just need Help. :)

WorldMark is a great choice...especially as you live in the Pacific Northwest.

I sent you an email.

Thanks!! Keep it coming. It is such good information.

PS We would be going to Disney in January -an off season-- and would like 2 bedroom for the trip we will take in 2009 and then a 1 bedroom in 2011. So how many points do you think that would be?

worldmark/disney trade

We were able to trade into Disney's Old Key West this past December using Worldmark points. We were there the week of Dec. 16-23. We booked thur II with 4,000 points as it was under the 59 days. It was only a studio, but we were thrilled since we were able to go at Christmas.

Good luck.

I exchanged WM into a Disney Hilton Head Island 2BR for Christmas week. Then I threw it back because DW wanted beachfront, so I snagged a 2BR Marriott Grande Ocean on Hilton Head Island for Christmas week.

If you get an II exchange within 59 day of check-in, that is called "flexchange" and you are only charged 4000 WM credits (no matter what size unit) plus the $139 exchange fee, plus housekeeping fee/token.

If you reserve further in advance, then it takes
9000 WM credits for a 1 bedroom
10,000 WM credits for a 2 bedroom

It is likely you could get an exchange into DVC for January.

With all of the wonderful resorts within driving range, I couldn't imagine an Oregonian owning anything other than WorldMark :)

This is EXACTLY what I was wanting to know. THANKYOU. That is a pretty good exchange, especally considering the place we like to stay in Oregon is 10,000 points as well.
I cannot seem to convince my husband that Worldmark may be better then DVC for us. We Have to stay at Disney January 2009 (hopefuly in SSR) in a 2 bedroom because we have already invited his parents. My husband is afraid if we bought a Worldmark timeshare we wouldn't get what we want. So I am not sure we would buy into Worldmark for a few more years. That is my hope that I can get the DVC out of him and then in a few years add the Worldmark one on. We are young so we have some time. I just thought Worldmark might have been a better investment for us at first. O, well.

Your husband concerns are valid. There are no guarantees on exchanges at a particular resort for a particular week for a particular unit size. However, that said, you can put in an ongoing search with a WM and improve your changes.

The alternative, is to find a DVC owner to rent you what you want for that particular week at SSR in 2009.

You can almost be sure you will not get DVC in a 2 bd unit. They (2 bd) are very few and far between. There are a fair number of 1 bd and studio units but very few 2 bd unit available for exchange.

There are lots of great TS in Orlando near disney where you'll be able to find a great 2 bd unit. Just not at DVC. But, to buy DVC for just one vacation doesn't make sense. Buy DVC only if you want to go there at least 3 of 4 years.

Good Luck

If you're just wanting DVC for a couple of trips, I'd rent over at the Dis boards from a DVC owner. If you drop a Friday and Saturday night, the points for a 2 bedroom at Saratoga (after New Years) Sunday through Thursday would only be 27 points a night - 135 points for 5 nights. And if you could rent for $10.00 a point, that's only $1,350. Just another idea.

I wouldn't count on getting DVC 2 bedrooms through II. I agree with Bill's post. He's right on the money. We have traded into DVC with our other timeshares (have only been able to snag a 2 bedroom once in flexchange), but knowing that we want to stay DVC the bulk of our vacations, there's nothing like being able to pick up the phone and call DVC Member Services and book what I want when I want it. :D

We plan on more trips to WDW after the 2009 one but that one is a thing we know we are doing at a certain time of year with a 2 bedroom at DVC. After that we could be more flexible with our dates and not need a 2 bedroom so it would be easier to get on exchange. This one January 2009 trip is the one that would be hard to get with Worldmark. Thanks for your concerns though.

We have rented points from the Disboards before, and with great success. We just decided if are going to be putting money into this we want it to be money going into OUR own contract. :) Our kids are 5 and 3 so we have MANY more good WDW years left.

DVC has some pretty good incentives going right now. Have fun picking a home resort and good luck. :)

Just remember that SoCal is a whole lot closer than Orlando. And there is currently only rumors of a DVC in SoCal. But, there is a big beautiful new WM resort less than 1/2 mile from Disneyland.

All true BUT we don't want to go to Disneyland that often. We like the feel of SSR at WDW and we LOVE all the dining options. We also like visiting the Florida beaches. We Love WDW. We will probably occasionaly go to Disneyland for shorted visits though.

IMHO, I'd buy a Marriott TS in Orlando if I were you. Go to your home resort when you want to visit WDW and get good trading power to all the other marriotts in the world. Are they the same Disney experiance as DVC? NO, but they are much more resonabily priced and I personally love staying at Marriotts. ( maybe when I can't trade into them, I'll buy one)
