Hi, I looked into WKORVN resales more than 10 years ago and thinking buying it. But I didn't get a chance to do so. Now I want buy it again. I remember that if you buy WKORVN from resales, you can the get the starpoints (Only a couple can do that). But Marriott brought Westin and does the starpoints still exist? How's the new system work? Thank you in advance!

Starpoints were the hotel points under the old SPG program which has been replaced by Marriott Bonvoy. I think what you are referring to is StarOptions in the VSN system.

StarOptions allow you to book at any resort with the Vistana system starting 8 months in advance. You can of course book at your home resort 12 months in advance. Most resorts lose their StarOptions when sold on resale (called voluntary resorts). WKORVN and WKORV are “mandatory” resorts which means the StarOptions transfer on resale.

Given the relatively high cost, I wouldn’t buy a WKORVN unit as a StarOption generator. The MF are relatively high. Most would recommend a Westin Kierland or SVV unit which also comes with StarOptions on resale.

Just to add to what @jabberwocky said... if you plan to use your ownership at WKORVN much or most of the time, then you will want to buy a unit at WKORVN. You'll have a lot more trouble getting the dates you want in Maui at 8 months than you will at 12. But if your primary goal is to get StarOptions that you can use at other properties, there are other mandatory properties that will give you the same SOs for a lower acquisition price and cheaper maintenance fees.

In general, you want to own at the property/properties you will actually use most often, because that'll give you the best chance at availability at those properties.

Under the merger, the Westin reservation system is a mess. I'd wait 6 mos. and see how things shake out.
