I just received a swap into WKORV. This is in the original Resort, not the North area. It is a 1 bedroom in room number 3102. Does anyone have a map that I can check the location of the room?

Also this is our 20th anniversary and we are going without our children. Any tips would be great. We love the beach/pool, horseback riding, nice restaurants etc. Would you suggest a car if staying at this resort?

How far is the road to Hanna?

If this is an exchange, the number on your confirmation doesn't really mean anything - the resort actually assigns the unit at check-in.

3 = Bldg. 3
1 = 1st Flr.
02 = Unit 2

Frankly, you should hope that you don't get this room - it won't have a view.

Here is a resort map - http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77371

You absolutely need a car. Maui is very rural. Without a car, you will have to pay for expensive tours to do any sightseeing at all. Plus it's 45 min. away from the airport.

I highly recommend this book - Driving and Discovering Maui and Molokai, and you can buy it on the author's website at a discount. Get it ASAP so you have time to do some research. It's the best driving guide for Maui and it's also an over-sized book with large "coffee table" quality pictures.

There is a lot of good info. about Maui on TUG.

The Road to Hana is on the other side of the island - it is a full day excursion. Hana itself is not much, it's the sightseeing that you do along the way that is the whole point of the trip. See the guide I recommended above.

This map will show you where Ka'anapali is (all the way to the top left) and Hana (all the way to the bottom right.)

Thank you Denise. It is actually a 2 Bedroomm and only myself and my husband are going since it is our anniversary. Do you know if all of the 2 bedrooms are lock offs? Maybe I could rent the other side to a friend.

My husband wants me to give it up and try for St. John or Atlantis or Avaria. I want to go to Maui. I have 24 hours to decide.

I wont be sorry will I? I think he does not want the 13 hour flight from the east coast. He also really wants to see St John, but I dont think I will get it. This is a September/October request.

All 2 bdm. units are lock-offs, but a 2 bdm. unit number would have more numbers than that.

II doesn't allow exchanges to be rented, so you want to be discrete about that.

Those are extremely difficult exchanges - you are not likely to get them. What are you using for a trader? SBP? I don't think it has the trading power for Avaira and WSJ and Harborside just don't get deposited.

SDO 1-52 pulls aviara, and everyone says SBP trades the same as it, so I would assume SBP pulls aviara.

My room number is now 312321. I saw where it is but you stated they don't matter on the exchange correct? They assign at check in? Is September a good month for Maui anything weather related that I should be conccerned about?

I don't think I will get the others either, I just do not want him to be miserable. Could a person be miserable on Maui????? I don't think so.

I was also thinking of flying over to the new Disney Resort for a few days and extending our vacation.

I'm confused - how did the number change?

Bldg. 3
First floor
units 23 and 21

September has summer weather and very low crowds.

If he's miserable on Maui, I'd never take him on vacation again! :D

Here's another thought - extend your trip with a few nights in San Francisco or Southern CA, instead of Oahu, to break up the long flight.

I will stick by my assertion that Aviara is a really long shot - remember you got WKORV because of the Starwood to Starwood preference.

I cannot recommend Maui highly enough. It is a great blend of quiet and activity. The resort is beautiful, the sunsets perfect and the views of the islands of Lanai and Molokai are wonderful. The flight from the east coast is annoying, but still worth it. The road to Hana is a very long day. We did the entire route around rather than coming back on the same road in and thoroughly enjoyed it. The snorkel trips out of Lahaina are great. Wish we had done the sunset cruise- so romantic. We had the breakfast buffet at WKORV and it was one of the best we had ever had. Duke's is an easy walk down the beach walk, but we did not have a chance to try it.

I like the book Maui Revealed.

It is not impossible to get into WSJ during this time - it is very low season in STJ (many restuarants are closed) - it can be nice weather at this time of year, but also very dodgy (e.g. this year...).

We love both places - and go yearly to both. we come from the west coast - so I feel his pain - STJ is a long way, but worth it - but be careful of the variable weather at STJ during this time. HI is much safer weather-wise.

Here is my suggestion - take the WKORV and get your friends with you (what you arrange privately with your friends is something between you and nobody can know what is your agreement). If you really want to try for Harborside or St John I will keep the current exchange and run a search with you next year usage for such trade. If something comes up that you like more you can call II and ask them to use your unit that you already exchanged to WKORV and to release your future use year SBP. This will cost you extra $104 but it is worth it. That is exactly what I did 2 years ago when I switched from confirmed WKORV exchange to HRA.
Keep in mind that St. John is long shot and most of the exchanges you will match will be in the flex-change or close to it. I have no idea about this resort since from all I have heard/read it is not my cup of tea but I have seen it in flex-change.
As for Harbourside - despite your priority you still depend on Starwood depositing such units. I will say chances for the summer HRA are slim to none, for winter you can probably catch something close to the 60-day before check-in and for hurricane season (Late Aug - Oct) chances are fair even outside flex.
As for FSA - you do not have internal priority so you will compete with all other II members and to go there you will have to be flexible and not in prime time. I am booking this resort often for friends on the west coast and it is much easier to do for me with WorldMark but it is hard exchange. I usually leave wide range for such search and check with them after I get match if they can use the week or not.

I can confirm that SBP definitely sees Aviara. I see it all the time and have booked exchanges to Troon with it.

We were at WKORV for two weeks in September. The weather related thing to worry about is sunburn. If it's too sunny, drive up a bit past Kapalua. It will probably be cloudy there. Or go to Hana, and it will rain.

MammaBear mentioned Duke's. It's great for breakfast, huge portions, good service.

You're going to love Maui.

In Hawaii, you need to wear high octane sunscreen and a hat all the time. Even on a cloudy day, it is very easy to get seriously sunburned, because you are closer to the sun.
